POSITION SUMMARY:

The Behavior Support and Training Specialist will conduct assessments along with analyzing current schedules, policies, and practices to determine environmental factors contributing to behavioral issues among members. The Behavior Support and Training Specialist is responsible for training staff in appropriate classroom practices, developing positive interactions with children and families, behavior prevention and intervention strategies, and classroom management strategies. When necessary, the Behavior Support and Training Specialist will work alongside staff to create individual behavior plans and interventions for members needing more targeted support. Salary is $45,000 annually.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct assessments of current practices, schedules, routines and norms.
  • Provide immediate support for the program staff and coordinators when behaviors arise.
  • Utilize the Safety Thermometer to measure impact of assessments, training, and interventions.
  • Support program staff and coordinators by working with challenging children in the classroom by pulling them out of the classroom and providing small group social activities for all children with high risk behavior needs.
  • Work directly with program staff and coordinators to identify children with behavioral needs.
  • Develop behavior plans for children with high risk behavior needs.
  • Directly train staff on how to respond in a trauma-informed way to children when inappropriate behaviors occur.
  • Provide support in classrooms regularly to promote developmentally appropriate classroom practices.
  • Contribute training material and train at All Staff and Coordinator and Director meetings as requested.
  • Manage program and activity reports and expenditures within approved budget as requested.
  • Prepare and provide any necessary reports to Family PLUS Director.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with children, parents, and co-workers.
  • Accept and respond to referrals from all Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows locations.
  • Provide appropriate community referrals to meet the needs of children and families.
  • Create relationships with behavioral health providers in the community for children and teens who need intervention beyond what can be provided by the Club.
  • Meet regularly with Family PLUS Director.
  • Attend and participate in various training sessions and staff meetings.
  • ALL BGCTM employees have the responsibility to help maintain the safety of our members and staff, and ensure an optimal Club experience for all.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively with a diverse population, and represent BGCTM professionally to the community.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to produce and provide data/reports in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Able to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Must be reliable and punctual reporting to assigned tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

CERTIFICATIONS/ASSOCIATIONS:

  • After hire, will receive mandatory paid on-line and in-person training, including Safety Skills, CPR/First Aid, etc.
  • After hire, will be registered with Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience working with at-risk children and children of trauma.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to perform duties which require walking, talking, hearing, standing, sitting, and/or bending for long periods of time. May occasionally be required to kneel, run and/or climb.
  • Must be able to use hands and arms to enter data into the computer, use the telephone and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to perform surface and deep cleaning, as needed.
  • Must be able to lift, move manipulate and or hold objects up to 45 pounds. Objects that exceed the 45-pound weight limit require additional assistance when moving, lifting or manipulating.
