WHO WE SERVE

Sierra Meadows Behavioral Health provides counseling therapy to adult men and women with a wide range of mental health conditions. Our 6 bed residential treatment program serves those who are having difficulty coping in their home environment due to heightened mental health symptoms. This includes those struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, PTSD, moderate eating disorders, and more. Job Purpose: Provide general nursing care to patients in a mental health treatment center. Create an atmosphere of healing, hope and comfort.

Primary Job Function: Care for up to 6 patients in a home like setting who are recovering from a mental health crisis. Provide care, treatment and support to patients and assist in providing an environment of healing. Administer medications, lead life skills group sessions, listen to patients and document on patients medical and emotional status. Ensure the environment is safe and patients feel secure.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action. Influence patients' behavior to assist in their healing.
  • Administer prescribed oral medications and hypodermic injections, following physician's prescriptions and hospital procedures and noting times and amounts on patient’s charts.
  • Answer patients' calls and determine how to assist them.
  • Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Provide basic patient care or treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures.
  • Help direct patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Work as part of a healthcare team to assess patient needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions.
  • Evaluate nursing intervention outcomes, conferring with other healthcare team members as necessary.
  • Collect samples for testing.
  • Provide medical treatment or personal care to patients in private home settings, such as cooking, keeping rooms orderly, seeing that patients are comfortable and in good spirits.
  • Sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides or sterilizer.
  • Make appointments, keep records, or perform other clerical duties.
  • Monitor patients' physical and emotional well-being and report unusual behavior or physical ailments to medical staff.
  • Provide nursing, psychiatric and personal care to patients.
  • Interview new patients to complete admission forms, to assess their mental health status and to obtain their mental health and treatment history.
  • Lead prescribed individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific therapeutic procedures.
  • Encourage patients to develop life skills and to participate in social, recreational, and other therapeutic activities that enhance interpersonal skills and develop social relationships.
  • Collaborate with and assist doctors, psychologists, and rehabilitation therapists working with patients in order to treat, rehabilitate, and return patients to the community.
  • Develop and teach strategies to promote client wellness and independence.
  • Contact patients' relatives to arrange family conferences.
Requirements:

Must have a valid license for CNA, MA, LVN or LPT. Experience working in mental health, alcohol or drug abuse a plus.
