Position Summary:

The Behavioral Support Aid serves as a source of support for the children in the program to assist them in all the day’s activities and to engage them in successful measures throughout the day while meeting their specific needs.

Key Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Stays with the group to support the behaviors of children throughout the program day.
  • Give clear boundaries and is positive and consistent in behavior guidance; modifications do not mean that a child does not need to abide by the classroom rules.
  • Is a facilitator between the children.
  • Assists the children in their daily choices.
  • Finds alternatives to meet their needs.
  • Verbally praises and cues throughout the day.
  • Works to meet daily duties/needs of the program and is responsible for making sure that materials are ready for use and put away at the end of the day.
  • Helps implement a variety of recreational and educational programs that emphasize group participation, character development, and awareness of cultural, educational, recreational, environmental and social issues.
  • Reports all accidents and unusual incidents immediately and assists with necessary documentation.
  • Supports routines and utilizes tools to help ensure student success including but not limited to sticker charts, visual aids, progress tracking, and home/school communication templates.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Excitement and positive attitude toward working with children.
  • Must be motivated, energetic, punctual, responsible, patient, and exhibit a positive attitude to be an excellent role model for children.
  • Must demonstrate cultural sensitivity and utilize effective communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, teach, and interact with children, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Some experience with diverse learners would be beneficial.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with school age children.
