Position:

We are seeking an energized, positive thinker to provide work incentive planning and assistance to Social Security beneficiaries. This is a flexible position with competitive pay and growth potential. This position can be fully remote.

The Benefits Counselor will educate clients who receive Social Security Disability Insurance and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSDI/SSI) benefits, among other benefits, programs, and health insurance, by empowering the client to make informed decisions regarding federal awards and working. The Benefits Counselor will review and obtain documents from Social Security and other sources in order to compose and counsel a client through an individualized comprehensive Benefits Summary and Analysis (BS&A).

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains documentation to verify benefits to compose a comprehensive report including information on SSDI, SSI, Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and other State or Federal Programs
  • Work with Social Security personnel and others to obtain required documents
  • Interpret various documents to provide services
  • Assist clients in understanding how going to work could impact benefits
  • Provide direct remote services to support vocational goal of the client as it relates to benefits
  • Ensure confidentiality of client’s information and documentation
  • Provides follow-up counseling services when needed to previous clients to promote understanding of benefits and working
  • Attends meetings as scheduled and other duties assigned

  • Strong understanding of federal awards including but not limited to SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Proficient technology skills
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills

Required:

  • Current CWIC from Virginia Commonwealth University or WIP-C from Cornell University
  • Maintain certification through CEUs
  • Must be able to pass a level 2 background check
  • Experience working with adolescents and adults who have a disability
  • Ability to write clear and concise individualized reports
  • Quiet space with internet and telephone access
  • Proficient computer competencies
  • At least 1 year of experience providing benefits counseling is preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred
