Bear Creek Baptist Church in southeastern Indiana is seeking a bi-vocational pastor. Bear Creek Baptist is in a rural location nearly 5 miles Southeast of Westport, Indiana. The church is located where the Jennings, Bartholomew and Decatur County lines intersect, about 20 – 30 minutes from North Vernon, Greensburg and Columbus and within an hour of Louisville, KY, Indianapolis, IN & Cincinnati, OH.

Organized in July 1828, the church has a proven history of leading members and the community in following Jesus Christ. Our rich history has been created by over 50 pastors and a countless number of sacrifices and contributions by members of the church and community. The Bear Creek congregation can be described as a caring, friendly and sincere family of believers.

As with many smaller churches, we have experienced multiple cycles with attendance and we are currently a small group of believers. An aging congregation, the COVID pandemic and many other challenges have greatly impacted the church. Today, our key activity is a Sunday worship service, but as the congregation grows, we would like to return to holding Sunday School and youth activities, as well. We are very faithful and believe Bear Creek continues to be an important role in the community and supporting people in their walk with Christ.

We are in search of a bi-vocational pastor who can provide traditional pastoral responsibilities of preaching, visitation, and teaching while working with church leadership and encouraging church growth by engaging within the community. Pastor must be willing to work with ABC-USA and ABC-IN/KY.

Job Description

Bear Creek Baptist Church is looking for a Bi-vocational Pastor with a seminary degree or working toward one. We are looking for someone who has the ability and desire to preach the Word and Love the people. We are a congregation who enjoys working together to get things done, so we are looking for a shared leadership pastor who has a servant’s heart to lead and guide us.

The pastor is responsible to the church to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to preach the biblical revelation, to engage in pastoral care ministries, and to provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life.

Responsibilities include:

1. Coordinate and conduct worship services with worship leaders.
2. Prepare and deliver sermons.
3. Lead the church in an effective outreach of witnessing and in a caring ministry for persons in the church and community.
4. Help members develop their spiritual life and relate faith to life
5. Contact prospects and members as time and needs dictate.
6. Conduct counseling sessions; perform wedding ceremonies; conduct funerals.
7. Lead the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the total program of the church.
8. Work with deacons and church officers, as they perform their assigned responsibilities.
9. Actively participate in church business meetings.
10. Actively participate in and represent the church in American Baptist Churches of Indiana and Kentucky (ABCIN/KY).
