Job Title: Entry Level/ Student Technician

Department: Service

Reports To: Service Manager

POSITION INFORMATION:

The entry-level/student technician is responsible for light maintenance work and minor repairs to service vehicles. The entry-level technician will either assist an assigned mentor or work independently with supervision. Entry-level technicians may be asked to perform additional tasks related to service department needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Focus on safety in the shop. Safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, and proper footwear while working on service vehicles. All PPE is provided by the dealership.

While working with a mentor, follow the instructions given, ask questions and focus on growth as a technician

Stay busy throughout the day. When no service work is available, cleaning, trash, homework, online technician training, and other housekeeping duties are to be done.

Break times are dictated by the mentor, dispatcher, or service manager.

Minor automotive repairs and service work such as oil changes, tire work, multi-point inspections, and other related minor automotive service tasks.

Customer-facing duties may include airing up tires, filling/checking engine fluids, wiper blade replacement, etc.

Ability to learn computer programs such as Xtime, CDK, Alldata, and manufacturer-specific online diagnosis systems.

A strict 5 mph speed limit is enforced while moving vehicles inside the shop or around the lot. If you are uncomfortable driving a vehicle, let your supervisor know. While test driving or transporting vehicles, you must wear your seat belt at all times. Do not exceed the posted speed limit. No phone use while driving on the lot, in the shop, or on roads.

All equipment requires training, including lifts. If you are not trained on a piece of equipment, please let your supervisor know.

All service employees participate in snow removal during the winter months

You are responsible to arrive on time and ready for work. Punch in and out on UKG and CDK at the start of the day, lunch breaks, and end of the day.

End-of-the-day duties may include trash removal, cleaning, etc. You must check with your supervisor before punching out for the day.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school /college student, high school/college diploma, or the equivalent. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information. General mechanical skills. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are preferred. Manual dexterity. Good judgment. V

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The entry-level/student technician will stand six to eight hours per shift, lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds several times during each shift, and use a hoist and test equipment as needed. S/he will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and feel. S/he will use hand and power tools. S/he will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials. Road-testing of vehicles may be required. The entry-level/student technician will be required to always wear a dealership uniform.
