Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
Support the Bookstore’s Mission to support the academic and administrative goals of Mountain Empire Community College by providing students with the necessary textbooks, school supplies, and other related materials in a pleasant atmosphere while striving to provide excellent customer service.

Responsible for front end procedures and daily retail operations. Responsible for some product selection and assisting the Bookstore staff with other product selection, purchasing and merchandising products.
Responsible for assisting the Bookstore staff with the maintenance of MECC Bookstore’s website and social media platforms as well as assisting with issuing employee and student ID’s.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in the position:
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Knowledgeable in the operation of cash registers.
Intermediate to advanced skills operating a computer.
Excellent active listening skills.
Ability to anticipate a customer’s needs.
Ability to quickly learn the bookstore mission and merchandise.

Minimum required qualifications:
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
Possess a minimum of at least one year of retail experience including operating a cash register.
Ability to lift and move boxes weighing in excess of 50 pounds utilizing safe lifting techniques.
