Organizational Description

DSAL’s mission is to implement the Community Capitals Policing model, which builds on

existing community capitals (natural, human, social, economic, built, political and cultural)

to create safer, healthier, more vibrant communities with authentic opportunities for all.

DSAL, a standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit, works within the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office

Youth & Family Services Bureau, alongside sworn Sheriff’s Office personnel and behavioral

health clinicians to accomplish this mission.


DSAL recreation programs offer no- and low-cost soccer, boxing, fitness and other

recreational activities for low-income community members and provides opportunities for

sheriff's deputies to interact positively with members of the community.

DSAL community development programs endeavor to provide support for community

groups, empower community members to engage in the political process, engage in

creative placemaking, and make their community a more vibrant, healthy place to live,

work and play.


Job Summary

The DSAL Boxing/Fitness Coach will organize and facilitate all classes and operations of the

DSAL boxing gym. The Boxing/Fitness Coach reports to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office

Boxing Coordinators and Recreation Director.

Goals for the program

  • When scheduled, open and close DSAL Boxing gym Monday- Friday.
  • Teach 4 or 5 classes daily.
  • Effectively manage a gym if another coach is absent.
  • Respond to all phone calls and emails within 24 hours.
  • Participate in DSAL staff meetings as well as meeting involving DSAL boxing.
  • Continue to develop knowledge, skills and new strategies in boxing fundamentals

such as footwork, stance, proper technique, body movement, coordination,

defensive/offensive maneuvers.

  • Adjust classes to participants ranging from beginners through advanced levels, from

ages 8 years old and up. Teach focus mitts techniques for boxing training of

beginners and advanced athletes alike.

  • Maintain all classes in a timely fashion. Determine participant skill level and oversee

sparring sessions conducted in accordance with USA Boxing Association Safety and

Standards Regulations.

  • Maintenance and cleanliness of the entire facility in between custodian’s work. Tasks

may include: mopping floors, vacuuming, sweeping the boxing ring, maintaining

orderly punching bags/speed bags, maintaining orderly operational equipment,

maintain a presentable work area before scheduled classes begin.

  • Conducting physical strength and conditioning training exercises for all classes as

well as athletes. Using boxing specific workout drills.

  • Establish a weekly boxing fitness program for all participants.
  • Perform financial transactions with sale of merchandise and accurately keep record

of aforementioned sales.

  • Send the Program Director a photo and positive client story every two weeks.
  • Support and facilitate all boxing events; organization, setup, breakdown of

equipment, event needs, and work with others coaches for event success.

  • Support DSAL community events.
  • Communicate all needs and requests to the Boxing Coordinators or Recreation

Director in person or via email.

Location

This position will primarily be based at the Hayward Adult School (22100 Princeton St,

Hayward, CA 94541).


Type of Employment

The position is an exempt, full-time position, paid at the rate of $29/hour x 32-40 hours per

week.


This position includes the following benefits:

  • Eligible employees earn sick leave at the rate of one hour of paid sick time for every

30 hours worked

  • Full time employees accrue vacation according to the following schedule, up to a

maximum of six paid weeks:

  • 6.67 hours per month or 10 days = 0 -1 year
  • 10 hours per month or 15 days per year = >1 to <5 years
  • 13.33 hours per month or 20 days per year = >5 years
  • Group health insurance plan: DSAL pays 100% of the value of the Kaiser Silver

medical/dental plan. Kaiser Gold and Platinum are also available, employee pays the

difference in price.

  • $10/pay period for hourly staff who use their cell phones regularly for work
  • Non-matching 401K to allow employees to save for retirement pre-tax
