HS Business and Marketing Teacher

Position: Business and Marketing Teacher


Location: West Valley High School

Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State CTE Certification in Business Education (V070000) and Marketing Education (V4080000) OR Business and Marketing Education (V078000) OR OSPI CTE V-Codes that allow teaching of all courses in job description.
  • Valid Washington State CTE Certification in Career Choices (V600092), and Worksite Learning Coordinator (V600097).
  • Required for Central Washington University – College in the High School: Master’s in Economics or related field. MA in teaching is acceptable with required experience as approved by CWU. 3+ years teaching experience in a related field.
  • Previous experience in a similar setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO’s) - DECA
  • Ability to develop CTE Frameworks in Marketing, Economics, Business, Photography, and Yearbook in alignment to 21st Century Skills, Common Core State Standards and Washington State Art Standards.
  • 6000 hours of industry experience in business management and operations, publishing, graphic design, and marketing.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for business, marketing, economics, school store, photography, and yearbook courses/programs at the high school.
  • Organize and supervise the school’s high performing DECA CTSO.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining and operating the school store and high school credit union.
  • Organize and supervise the annual publication of the high school’s yearbook.
  • Collaborate with other programs and departments throughout the district.
  • Fulfill CTE required duties including, but not limited to: attending all advisory meetings, framework updates, OSPI requirements and paperwork, and partnering with local employers.
  • Maintain and develop Industry Recognized Credentials and dual credit agreements.
  • Utilize student assessment data to formulate instructional decisions.
  • Actively engage students in the learning process using interactive, problem solving and research based instructional methods.
  • Regularly incorporate choice and voice in instruction, assessment and performance.
  • Maintain a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet diversified student learning needs.
  • Incorporate technology into the instructional process.
  • Create relationships/connections with students, staff and community members in order to create a more collaborative learning environment.
  • Develop reading/writing relevance for all students including a willingness to incorporate work-based reading and writing skills within the curriculum.
  • Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
  • Actively engage with other department members in professional learning communities, development of common assessment standards, and other aspects that ensure every student has the opportunity for a rigorous and relevant education.
  • Be willing to advocate for students who need someone to speak up for what they need to be successful.
  • Regularly assess student work, input grades regularly into Family Access, and regularly contact parents regarding student performance/behavior in your classroom.
  • Actively participate in all workshops and training sessions that support building and district programs and goals, including the West Valley School District professional growth program (TAP/ACCEL).
  • Implement the requirements of I.D.E.A., Section 504, and A.D.A. in the education of students with disabilities.
  • Make the commitment to supervise a variety of student activities outside the regular school day (dances, athletic events, etc.).
  • Actively assume responsibility for a set of students to mentor through all phases of career education, portfolio development, high school and beyond plan.

Working Relationships

Work in partnership with both large and small groups of teachers and other professional staff. Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff. Team up with grade level colleagues to plan lessons, analyze student data, and maintain a focus on continuous improvement. Cooperate with the building administrator in the observation and evaluation process. When working with instructional paraprofessionals, provide appropriate lesson plans and activity supervision. May deal with a wide range of student abilities and behaviors; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.


Working Conditions

The daily work is performed in a classroom setting. The job incumbent is often required to stand or sit for prolonged periods, be exposed to computer display terminals for prolonged periods, and meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines. May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather; lift, move, and position students and equipment; supervise students, bus loading/unloading; attend to students’ personal hygiene; may be required to deal with distraught, angry, or hostile individuals; may need to take precautions to avoid exposure to student bodily fluids and cleaning or disinfecting compounds; required to work in non-routine positions for extended periods.


Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assisting in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job is performed under a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
