Business Office Coordinator Job at Lakeland Behavioral Health System
The Business Office Biller/Collector holds a key role in the Revenue Cycle. The Biller/Collector position is responsible in managing all facets of insurance billing, claims process and follow up, and customer service. The Business Office Biller/Collector will report directly to the Business Office Director with minimal supervision.
Other duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare and generate clean claims for submission to all payor types, including third party payors, Medicare and Medicaid. Submission of UB-04 and CMS-1500 claims are done via 837 electronic, fax, invoice, and online web portal.
- File all secondary insurance claims on a timely basis.
- Gather and interpret data from system and understand appropriate course of action to take and initiate time-sensitive and strategic steps resulting in payment.
- Facilitate all rejections from electronic or paper claims. Obtain information from carriers, internal departments or patients when services billed are denied for reasons such as incorrect insurance information, demographic information and/or authorization. Appeal denials when necessary.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with internal/external providers to ensure billing and collection procedures are current.
- Research and resolve all zero payment explanations or benefits and exercise all options to obtain claims payments; initiates adjustments as necessary.
- Report an overview of the week to the BOD and participate in AR meetings.
- Handle daily correspondence and requests for information from insurance companies and patients.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent required; Associates Degree or Medical Billing Certificate preferred.
- 2-4 years minimum experience in Medical Billing and Denial Processing for insurance, Claims Process or Collections required.
- Demonstrate expertise and experience in area of billing, denials review, and accounts receivable processes required.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD10, HCPCS, Medicare/Medicaid, and Medical Terminology required.
- Word, Excel, Data Entry and Web Browsing required.
- HMS System experience preferred.
- Strong verbal/written communication abilities; effective interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail.
- Ability to execute quickly and efficiently.
- Effective problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic math and data entry typing skills, including 10 key
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Positive, friendly, approachable disposition.
- Psychiatric experience preferred.
