Primary Objective of Position:
- The Buyer is responsible for the purchase of materials, equipment, and supplies in accordance with prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures. Reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions, investigates and develops sources of supplies, prepares bid specifications, issues bid requests and reviews quotations. This position requires a degree of technical knowledge along with initiative and independent judgment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Solicits bids and analyzes data to demonstrate best choice, considering most favorable price, quality delivery and other various factors.
- Evaluate suppliers and source new vendors.
- Procure products and materials used company wide.
- Expedite orders when needed to meet production’s needs.
- Evaluate vendor lead times to best determine ordering cycle – anticipating usage increase spikes or shortages.
- Generate reports to assist with ordering and evaluating purposes.
- Assist with cycle counts or inventory when required.
- Produce performance and analytical reports as requested by management.
- Keep Purchasing Supervisor abreast of any changes or issues that may escalate if left unresolved.
§ Participate in vendor selection studies and assist in vendor certification for new vendors.
§ Maintain inventory adequate to provide uninterrupted production and within company guidelines while maintaining target inventory levels.
§ Create and maintain records for project management to insure communication to internal departments are current.
§ Develop and maintain business relationships with current vendors through meetings and correspondence.
§ Provide cost savings proposals and research price reduction opportunities with vendors.
§ Work with internal departments to source vendors which may be used for second source bid interests.
- Review and resolve discrepancies or negotiate settlements to the best possible long-term advantage of the business
- Participate in reconciliation of vendor accounts and insure accuracy of invoices.
§ Prepare and maintain purchase orders to insure their completeness, clarity and accuracy.
- Work with vendors to increase performance to fulfill ISO requirements.

- Performs other related duties as required and assigned. Qualifications / Requirements:
- Five to seven years of experience as Buyer / Expediter in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of Materials Requirements Planning methods, (MRP- JD Edwards preferred).
- Strong judgment and reasoning abilities including analytical, conceptual, and detail-oriented skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in Excel using formulas, v-look up, and privet tables.
- Strong team member.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to use a high degree of diplomacy.
- Ability to negotiate prices, write and research proposals, and issue bid request.
- Knowledge of IATF requirements preferred.
- Ability to communicate, listen and understand customer needs and take the appropriate action as needed to solve any possible issues.
