JOB PURPOSE: The Buyer will negotiate with vendors for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment and services used by Bruss North America. Work directives will include guidelines from our German headquarters. The Buyer is also responsible for management techniques and practices appropriate with purchasing practices and policies within the automotive manufacturing industry.

AUTHORITY: All employees have the authority to stop operations/production for the following three reasons: 1) a quality defect, 2) an unsafe act, or 3) a health hazard.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for developing new suppliers, including:

- researching new vendors for benchmarking,
-qualifying new vendors,
-determining suppliers for MRO parts (indirect materials)
-developing cost reduction strategies to proceed with negotiations with suppliers to achieve departmental cost reduction target.

  • Ensures supplier documentation is valid/current/safely stored and is received in accordance with purchase order (including insurance guarantees, ISO certs, etc.)
  • Identifies, solicits, and selects reliable sources of supply of materials, equipment, and services to support project execution.
  • Receives requisitions (analyzes for quality, specification, delivery, and general completeness.)
  • Assists with identifying competitive sources, seeking pricing and delivery schedules, selecting suppliers, and placing orders
  • Negotiates vendor terms, pricing, and delivery in compliance with budgetary/schedule requirements
  • Assists materials clerk as needed in the coordination of activities involved with procuring MRO, chemicals, and equipment
  • Works with Engineering to ensure specifications of materials and equipment is provided on-time
  • Analyzes inventory, minimum order quantity, and lead times to maintain demand and safety stock requirements
  • Responsible for minimizing any stock out positions by planning accordingly to lessen impact of vendor delays or extended lead times.
  • Prepares purchase orders, controls prices, and ensures delivery of materials and equipment to meet objectives
  • Provides agreed approvals and supporting documentation for payment of invoices
  • Maintains detailed records of issued Purchase orders
  • Manages on-time delivery performance and lead times in adherence with vendors, quotes, and resolve any constraints and expedites when necessary
  • Identifies and champions opportunities for continuous improvement and better efficiencies
  • Reviews service contracts as deemed appropriate and necessary
  • Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with US laws
  • Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience, Competencies and Education

An experienced worker with appropriate industry experience, preferably in the automotive manufacturing field. An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards, an appropriate professional image, good judgment and strong operational focus. A well organized and self-directed individual who has great attention to detail. An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills. An excellent negotiator who is experienced in contracts. Bachelor’s Degree (BS) or equivalent experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with MRP/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel required.

· Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
