JOB TITLE: Cable Installer – Apprentice PAY RANGE: $19.82-$29.74

DEPARTMENT: Salish Networks, Inc.

JOB DESCRIPTION: As part of a team, under the supervision of a Licensed Electrician to learn proper
procedures to install telecommunications infrastructure and various low voltage cabling to support network,
telecommunications and fiber optic systems.

EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYEE REPORTS TO: Infrastructure Manager

EMPLOYEE SUPERVISES: None

EDUCATION:

  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent required. (Must be attached or application will be rejected)
  • Washington State EL06 (Preferred but not required)

SKILLS:

  • Must have a basic knowledge of cable terminations and color codes.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of types of telecommunication cables and equipment along with
appropriate usage.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of cable installation standards.
  • Must have basic general construction skills for the installation of cabinets and equipment
modifications.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of basic construction and telecommunication hand tools.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of work place safety.
  • Must have strong organization skills and be methodical in conducting work, i.e. prioritizing,
multitasking, planning and coordinating.
  • Ability to maintain composure, thinks clearly, and performs well under pressure working in a fast-
paced environment.

EXPERIENCE:

  • This is an entry-level position.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work as a low voltage apprentice technician.
  • Must be willing to take direction and work assignments from Journeyman and other licensed
Electricians.
  • Must be willing to accumulate and document hours towards the licensing requirements as a 06
Electrician.
  • Must be willing to work modified work schedules to include 4/10’s, early starts etc. as needed to
complete project requirements.
  • Must have the tolerance and patience for dealing with upset, angry, and/or frustrated individuals.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license (documentation must be attached)
  • Must be able to successfully complete a Tribal, State and Federal background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a hiring and periodic random urinalysis
  • Must be available 24/7 for any travel emergencies that may arise.
  • Must be available for periodic overtime or on-call status as required.
  • Must be willing to attend progressive job related training as requested.
  • Must have a successful employment history with current and past employers.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND/OR PREREQUISITES:

  • Manual and finger dexterity for the operation of a personal computer and routine paperwork
  • Stamina to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Stamina to work with hands above head for prolonged periods of time
  • Mobility to bend, stoop, and/or climb stair on an occasional basis
  • Strength to lift object weighing up to 50 lbs frequently, and objects weighing up to 75lbs
occasionally.

SPECIFIC JOB PERFORMED:

  • Installation of limited energy cabling infrastructure (inside/outside plant, aerial/UG), according to
blueprints, specifications and customer needs to include, but not limited to:

o Voice and Data (copper and fiber optic)

o CCTV

o CATV

o Paging

o DAS

o Access Control

o Nurse Call

o Fire Alarm

  • Terminate fiber and copper cabling according to industry standards.
  • Ensure adequate stock of installation materials.
  • Verification of project parts and materials received.


  • Maintain company equipment.
  • Maintain safety standards as applicable to company, city, county, state and federal standards
  • Maintain inventory control of warehouse materials
  • Perform other related duties as deemed necessary or requested.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a regular Full-time position requiring at least 40 per week, or 2080 hours per
year. Increase in pay is subject to budgetary restriction, following successful completion of applicable
probationary period. Relocation expenses will not be authorized.
