CAD Drafter - I-75 Job at Fluor Corporation
Bridging North America (BNA), a partnership of Fluor, ACS Infrastructure Canada and Aecon Group Inc., is seeking candidates for the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.
BNA was selected to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the CAD$5.7 billion (approximate US$4.4 billion) Gordie Howe International Bridge project for Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA).
When completed, the bridge will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. The project includes a bridge and border crossing spanning the Detroit River and connecting Detroit, Michigan, U.S., and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, by linking Interstate 75 and Interstate 96 in Michigan with the new extension of Highway 401 (Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway) in Ontario. The scope also includes building new, state-of-the-art ports of entry on both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the Detroit River as well as improvements to existing infrastructure in both Michigan and Ontario.
Operating under detailed instructions and review, the purpose of this position is to provide the essential technical knowledge and perform the work listed. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor's competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. The purpose of this position is to work on drawings of limited to moderate scope to support the Design Area Lead or Lead.

Position Responsibilities:
- Generates engineering drawings of highway structures and profiles of highway elevations for construction as required by our Technical Dept.
- Seeks continuing education opportunities so that present level of skills can be upgraded.
- Works from notes, verbal instructions, sketches and drawings, or engineering specifications; consolidates the information to be used to prepare working plans, layouts and detailed drawings.
- Reviews the design and helps resolve the details not completely defined. Determines the best combination of all the preliminary information and contributing data to develop the final design.
- Develops designs or drawings using engineering principals, established company standards, procedures, and instructions.
- Reviews engineering drawings and supporting documents for adherence to industry design standards.
- Verifies completed work; checks dimensions, materials to be used, processing information, etc.
- Coordinates with other internal departments as required.
- Assures that any changes are documented and prepared in accordance with engineering change procedures and in a timely manner.
- Follows company procedures, work instructions and guidelines in the design, layout, and documentation i.e. procedure, classification coding and retrieval system, CAD drafting and archival guidelines, etc.

Basic Job Requirements
- A combination of education and directly related experience equal to two (2) years; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
- Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical school diploma plus a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field civil engineering design.
- 3D Modeling experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D systems.
- Must be a self-starter with good verbal/written communication skills
