Weekly Rate: Starting at $500-D.O.E.

Position Summary:

The Health and Safety Assistant is responsible for ensuring a clean and safe camp environment, per local, state, national, American Camp Association, and CDC guidelines. Duties assigned may include executing additional cleaning procedures; assisting the Health and Safety Manager in check in, med call, and all health center duties; and may be asked to help camp in other duties or capacities.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure work areas and activities are safe and meet the requirements of the American Camp Association, Texas State Health Department, CDC, and GSCTX.
  • Responsible for ensuring the cleaning and sanitizing of camp communal spaces and equipment according to established guidelines and best practices.
  • Promote and support Girl Scout program philosophies of the GSUSA & GSCTX.
  • Responsible for maintaining camp cleaning supplies and equipment, including maintaining an accurate inventory and ordering supplies as needed through the camp manager.
  • Responsible for being accessible at all times for deployment around camp as needed to maintain optimal camper and staff health and safety.
  • Responsible for general cleaning supervision of the entire camp.
  • Ensure the safety of all campers during their stay at Girl Scouts of Central Texas camps by following all policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager with the running of the Health Center, including but not limited to: paperwork and documentation, preparing of med call, assisting during med calls and first aid calls, and with unit inspections
  • Assisting with check in of campers, either with med line paperwork collection or with other aspects of the check in process.
  • Provide quality camper experience that resolves concerns in a timely manner.
  • Promote Girl Scouting in a positive manner to the public and co-workers.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including participation in camper activities such as (but not limited to): cook out, check in, check out, all camp activities, themed days or meals, and duties at meals.
  • Assuming other duties as directed by the camp manager, which may be in other capacities on camp.
  • Assisting with daily, weekly, and end of season camp cleaning responsibilities

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age by June 1, 2023.
  • Adheres to the Personnel Policies for Summer Camp Staff.
  • Current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and American Red Cross AED/CPR or American Heart Association CPR encouraged.
  • EMT or CNA preferred.
  • Ability to stimulate interest in basic cleanliness, health education, and safety best practices.
  • Ability to adapt to various camp work situations in a variety of weather.
  • Experience with public health safety protocols preferred.
  • Proven emotional stability needed to follow disinfection, cleanliness and safety standards with good judgment.
  • Ability to inspire confidence in children and staff.
  • Knowledgeable in safe use and storage of cleaning supplies and other sanitization chemicals.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Must reside on camp property.
  • Camp experience is preferred.
  • Exhibits mature and responsible behavior at all times

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and twisting upper body.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Capable of heavy labor activities both inside and outside.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Continuous outdoor activity and exposure to weather.
  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited equipment and facilities, with daily exposure to sun, heat, and insects.
  • Willingness to live in camp facilities that may not have AC

OTHER WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Continuous requirement for professional demeanor and appropriate camp staff attire at all times.
  • A criminal background check is required.
  • Continuous work as a team member and ability to work independently with some supervision.
  • Frequent work under stress and under pressure of deadlines with overlapping projects.
  • Continuous ability to work well with others.
