Job Summary: In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to oversee and coordinate the day-to-day activities concerned with production of log and billet with a focus on safety, quality and productivity of a 30+ person department by performing the following duties personally and/or through Supervisors/ Foremen.

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Oversees directly the Casting Supervisor and Yard Supervisor. Indirectly, 30+ team members in the Remelt, Yard, and Raw Materials area
  • Works closely with the Cast Products Leadership Team to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered
  • Leads Continuous Improvement initiatives to realize maximum efficiency of people and processes; and is willing to learn and implement Lean/ Six-Sigma concepts
  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors
  • Coordinates production activities with department manager, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of resources, including people, machines, and equipment.
  • Collects, reviews and analyzes data related to production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality
  • Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure, operating issues, or other planned or unplanned events
  • Ownership in the elimination of workforce injuries and reduction of OSHA recordable rates
  • Leads the teams to live the SafeStart behavior-based safety system that has been implemented. Sustains and improves the safety program based around "eyes on task", "mind on task", elimination of complacency, and taking care of yourself outside of work, allowing employees to function in a safe manner whether at work or at home
  • Leads in the implementation of a Cast House Training program encompassing all phases of the Remelt Department
  • Leads the Remelt Department to improve upon customer feedback surveys regarding approval of the quality of the products delivered
  • Serves as a member of the support team for the Supervisor, Foreman, and workforce. The Cast Products Leadership Team is comprised of the Casting Superintendent, Yard Supervisor, CP Supervisor, EH&S Manager, ISO Coordinator, Quality Manager, Remelt General Manager, and the Human Resources Manager
  • Works closely with the Maintenance Manager to develop, implement, and sustain a Preventive Maintenance Program
  • Oversees direct reports of Casting Supervisor and Yard Supervisor, and Indirectly 30-40 team members in the Remelt and Raw Materials area
  • Responsible for the day-to-day direction and coordination of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws; these include directing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; safety awareness and compliance; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Education
    • Desired: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
    • Required: High School Diploma with advanced training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in a molten metal environment
  • Language Skills
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and manuals
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
    • Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization
  • Mathematical Skills
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
    • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Physical Requirements
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to talk or hear
    • The employee is must be able to frequently walk and sit and occasionally stand
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, using hands to handle objects
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus

    • A desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
    • Highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn and apply new skills
    • Attentive to details and follows through on assigned tasks and commitments
    • Flexible and driven to meet tight deadlines, handle multiple projects and prioritize them appropriately
    • Strong organizational skills, and ability to effectively disseminate information in a clear and concise manner
    • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
    • Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsorships are not available

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
