Provide professional clinical care for patients receiving treatment, examination, same day surgery and procedures. Assist the physicians in directing patient flow and operational efficiencies in the clinical patient treatment areas. Trained in HIPAA requirements and upholds patient privacy standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain open communication with supervisor regarding clinic activities, needs, and problems.
  • Review patient schedule and ensure that medical records for patients are available for the physicians at appointment time.
  • Assure adequate stock of supplies, medications, linens, and equipment are available for patient care in labs and exam rooms. Replenish stock as necessary. Assure that rooms are clean and prepared for the next patient.
  • Inspect equipment for serviceability and proper operation.
  • Greet patient, direct him/her to the exam room, take vital signs, prepare the patient for the physician exam, record necessary information for the physician, assist in directing the patient for procedures or lab tests and radiologic work and escort the patient to the reception area.
  • Review previous medical records. Enter required information on new patient records.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and treatments, provide medications, supplies, and equipment as needed. Explain procedures to the patients when necessary. Provide comfort, support, and reassurance as necessary.
  • Perform phone triage when scheduled.
  • Follow all regulations, laws, procedures, and policies regarding storage, safeguarding, and dispensing medications and/or narcotics.
  • Perform specimen collection as directed.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Comply with clinic policies and procedures.
  • Disposes all confidential paperwork during the course of the day into a Shred-it container.
  • Treats all patient’s health information confidentially and follows HIPAA Guidelines for communication to information to external and internal recipients.
  • Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Previous experience in physician’s office preferred.
