Job Description
The Toddler Aide is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate Child Care program for the children in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Jackson County Campus Child Care Program.
The Toddler Aide will be responsible for planning and implementing a program to care for young children. The Toddler Aide must ensure the development and safety of these children in accordance with relevant federal legislation and policies. The Toddler Aide will be respectful of children and parents, and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained. Failure to provide adequate services may place children at risk.
All Employees in the Early Childhood Education Facility shall have a criminal records background check (Fingerprint), Child Abuse registry check, and sex offender record check before being allowed to work with the children in the facility.

WORKING CONDITIONS Physical Demands
Caring for children can be physically demanding. The Toddler Aide must be able to lift and carry children and equipment, and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture. The Toddler Aide will be expected to clean and maintain equipment and facility, and may move throughout the campus with children. The Toddler Aide may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff, and themselves.
The Toddler Aide will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the Toddler Aide will have to supervise all children at all times.

Job Duties
  • Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program
  • Provide nutritious snacks and lunches
  • Provide adequate equipment and activities
  • Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained, and safe at all times
  • Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities
  • Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities
  • Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures
  • Supervise children in the child care center
  • Ensure children are supervised at all times
  • Provide various experiences and activities for children including songs, games and story telling
  • Provide opportunities for sleep and rest time
  • Build children’s self esteem
  • Establish routines and provide positive guidance
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable
  • Implement positive discipline when required
  • Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand
  • Maintain program administration
  • Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities, and their child’s progress.
  • Develop and maintain current, accurate, and confidential client files; ensure that children’s files are updated regularly
  • Develop daily activity plans
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) A minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or the ability to attain an Associates Degree within 2 years
(M2) Experience working with young children in an educational setting
(M3) CPR/First Aid certified with Infant Child CPR certification
(M4) Written and interpersonal communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Director Qualified through the MSDH
(D2) Playground/Safety Certification
(D3) Familiarity with basic Internet, Email and Word Processing functions
