Hours:

  • Monday-Friday 7:30 am-4:00 pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, or 8:30am-5pm.
  • Hours are subject to change as business needs require.

A Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) performs routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner. The CMA acts as a practice ambassador contributing to overall patient experience, safety, and privacy.

This role will be required to travel throughout NJ to all 6 hospitals located in: New Brunswick, Somerville, Hamilton, Long Branch, Lakewood, and Toms River.

This role will mostly be assigned to a facility for a month and then be reassigned as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Recognize, respond to and notify appropriate healthcare team member patent emergencies.
  • Escorts patients in and out of patient exam rooms. Queues patients into various locations as appropriate.
  • Greets patient and family, performs appropriate ID checks, and explains all procedures to be performed.
  • Maintain exam room supplies, equipment and stock as needed.
  • Measure and record patient's vital signs in the appropriate section of the medical record.
  • Notify the nurse and or physician with all appropriate patient questions or concerns.
  • Obtain all necessary information including physician notes prior to patient appointment.
  • Perform phlebotomy and collection of lab specimens adhering to collection, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Administer injections and vaccinations as per direction from the medical director or the advanced practice nurse.
  • Perform EKG's adhering to applicable policies and procedures.
  • Perform tuberculin skin testing adhering to collection, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Update and record patient medication reconciliation list in the appropriate section of the medical record.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with Corporate Care staff regarding Respirator Fit clinics.
  • Provides coverage at multiple facilities directed by manger.
  • Reviews and maintains CC email for printing and logging read elsewhere forms in Agility.
  • Run weekly compliance reports for HR and Senior Management for multiple facilities.
  • Review schedule weekly and add clinics where needed for multiple sites as established by manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required within one (1) year of hire. Candidates who do not possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent at time of hire will be provided the opportunity to enroll in a GED/HSEA program as a condition of employment. New hires will be provided one (1) year from date of hire to successfully complete a GED program and obtain their HSEA.
  • Relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Medical Assistant Certification required or the ability and willingness to obtain certification from one of the following recognized organizations within 60 days of hire: NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, NAHP. Job title will reflect Medical Assistant and will convert to Certified Medical Assistant upon proof of certification.
  • BLS Certification approved by AHA, required.
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of patient satisfaction and safety.
  • Ability to take vital signs and perform a patient assessment.
  • Administration of medications as directed by physician or health practitioner.
  • Phlebotomy and EKG, preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills essential.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems, preferred.
