Under the direction of the Health Information Management Director, the inpatient/outpatient coder will be responsible for coding all inpatient records and assigning DRG's, coding all outpatient, emergency room, clinics and medical/surgical ambulatory records of patients who have been discharged. The coder assures that all codes and DRG's are assigned in compliance with federal regulations utilizing the current ICD-10-PCS and CPT-4 classification systems in conjunction with the 3-M encoding system. The coder ensures records will be coded accurately to maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies, integrity and the quality of the statistical abstracted data. The inpatient coder abstracts hospital specific data for research purposes as well. The coder must use the federal coding guidelines and initiatives, as outlined in the departmental coding polices and procedures.

Requirements:
Associate Degree required
Bachelors Degree preferred

License/Certifications:
CCS-Certified Coding Specialist
RHIT- Registered Health Information Technician
RHIA- Registered Health Information Administrator
CPC- Certified Professional Coder

1 - 3 years experience required
