    Position Summary

    MaineHealth is looking for a Coding Compliance Specialist to join our team! MaineHealth offers up to $2,000.00 per year for continuing education and our department also pays for Continuing Education Units through the AAPC annual webinar subscriptions. In addition, the department reimburses you for your annual CPC membership fee! Depending on an individual’s credentialing this could be quite an additional bonus!

    The Coding Compliance Specialist (Audit & Education) position is chiefly responsible for chart auditing and coding education to MaineHealth physicians, APPs, and other supporting providers and ancillary staff in primary care and multi-specialty settings. Our mission is to create a positive rapport between the clinical staff and our department to help promote accurate E/M coding and documentation practices. The Specialist reviews encounter notes for accuracy, including evaluation and management coding; office procedural coding; diagnostic coding; as well as other relevant, non-clinical, compliance elements. Meet personally with new hires to provide practitioners with onboarding education to help establish a strong foundation of communication, rapport, and coding education and compliance knowledge. Continued education is furnished throughout the year. Responds promptly to coding inquiries from providers or others with precise and accurate results, as well as the ability to research and interpret regulations and coding changes. Coding Compliance Specialists should possess the ability to work independently as well as in a group setting. Maintaining coding compliance education and relevant certifications required. Currently, this particular position involves furnishing audits and education for Cardiology, General, Thoracic, Oncology & Pediatric Surgery, PSC Endocrine & Diabetes, Neurosurgery & Spine, Internal Medicine & Pediatrics.     Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    Certified Professional Coder (CPC required, CPMA not required, but preferred). HCC/Risk Diagnostic Coding knowledge preferred. Minimum 3 years related experience.

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Working knowledge of CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding.
    • Knowledge of coding policies and billing practices.
    • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly in person, in writing, and on the phone
    • Ability to read, interpret medical charts and perform a coding audit.
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to accomplish multiple tasks.
    • Proficient computer skills to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Go-To-Meetings.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to work independently and as a team member with minimal direct supervision.
    • Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times.
