The State of New Hampshire, Department of Justice, Cold Case Unit has a part-time vacancy for a Cold Case Investigator.

Summary:

Conducts investigations of unsolved homicide cases and other criminal investigations, and performs related law enforcement activities as authorized by the New Hampshire Attorney General. Consults with and receives assignments from the chief investigator or the supervising attorney of the Cold Case Unit.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in legal administration, criminal justice or a related field.
Experience: Six years' experience investigating crimes, four years of which must have been in a management level position involving administrative or supervisory duties concerned with program administration, program planning and evaluation, business management or related management experience.
OR
Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in legal administration, criminal justice or a related field.
Experience: Seven years' experience investigating crimes, four years of which must have been in a management level position involving administrative or supervisory duties concerned with program administration, program planning and evaluation, business management or related management experience.
License/Certification: Must possess current certification as a law enforcement officer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Experience investigating homicides preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Possession of analytical skills and computer skills, to include the operation of various computer software (Word, Excel, etc.). Knowledge of and skill in interview and interrogation techniques. Must maintain all of the accountability requirements designated for the Criminal Investigator position with the NH Department of Justice.

Responsibilities :

Review unsolved homicide cases and assess the best course of action for follow up regarding physical evidence collected and interviews that may need to be conducted to further enhance the solvability of these cases.
Conduct highly skilled criminal investigative assignments in order to enhance the identification and subsequent prosecution of offenders.


Take fingerprints, photographs, and latent prints, and use professional investigative methods to identify, gather and preserve evidence.

Utilize electronic and other specialized police equipment for the purpose of gathering evidence.

Interview complainants, witnesses and suspects for the purpose of obtaining evidence and/or admission of guilt.


Submit all necessary criminal reports in proper form, on time and in conformance with established criminal bureau procedures.
Maintain proficiency in criminal investigative techniques and knowledge of law so that duties and responsibilities are performed in an effective manner.
Collect documentary and testimonial evidence through subpoenas, court orders and administrative orders.
Testify as witness in district, superior and federal courts.
Assist attorneys in case preparation.
Read and comprehend legal documents. Demonstrate communication skills to prosecute cases in court and other formal settings.
