Job Summary:
Performs skilled painting jobs on furniture, buildings and other facilities area.
Job Duties:
Applies paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, bridges, and/or other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers. Applies primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats. Mixes and matches colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies. Fills nail holes, joints, and cracks in walls with plaster or other filler. Covers surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and removes fixtures such as pictures, door knobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting. Calculates amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements and/or work orders. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Requisitions new painting supplies and equipment.
Experience and Education:
Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. May act as a lead or first-level supervisor. Typically requires a high school diploma and 4 to 6 years of experience.
Reports to:
Typically reports to a department head or manager.
Competencies:
Oral and written communication skills. Ability to understand and follow directions. Manual dexterity. Ability to lift/move heavy objects. Physical stamina. Leadership skills.
