Make your mark in public service. As an accredited public health department, we're seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Communicable Disease Specialist 2 within the Fulton County Health Department (District 3-2) in Atlanta, GA.

The Communicable Disease Specialist 2 will perform duties related to identifying and obtaining treatment for carriers of contagious diseases. Responsibilities include identifying target populations, conducting epidemiological investigations, administering tuberculin skin tests, obtaining laboratory samples, and making referrals for social/community services.

This is a GRANT FUNDED position and is subject to available grant funds.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Interview clients with or suspected to have communicable diseases.
  • Recruit clients into appropriate prevention programs.
  • Obtains medical and epidemiological histories.
  • Conducts home visits to educate and assess patients’ progress.
  • Applies tuberculosis skin tests, performs phlebotomy, and collects sputum samples.
  • Collects, organizes, prepares and reports verified cases of tuberculosis to the State Tuberculosis Control Unit.
  • Conducts epidemiological investigations of disease contacts, assesses risk factors, refers clients to clinic for follow-up and provides appropriate services to patients dually infected with tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
  • Maintains patient files, vouchers, and other documents and reports in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Provides health education to community organizations, schools, and groups regarding sexual and other health issues.
  • Assists patients in obtaining referrals to social/community services.
  • Assists in identifying and obtaining treatment for incarcerated patients with contagious diseases.
  • Provide training in disease investigation as required.
  • Works as Hospital Liaison for patients in hospitals for coordination of care.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND Six months of related experience OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience in a related area OR Four years of experience in a medical related field OR licensure as a registered nurse AND One year of nursing experience OR One year of experience at the lower level Communicable Disease Spec 1 (HCP080) or position equivalent.
