Summary

Under the direction of the communications supervisor, the Communication Field Engineer performs routine evaluation, sustainment, design, and modification of communications components, sub-systems and systems. Conducts analyses and/or tests pertaining to the integration of new designs, and systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


Research, plan and support the design of microwave, air to ground radio, and digital communication systems upgrades to include consideration of frequency management / interference.

Work with senior RF Engineers to coordinate the activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation and repair of communication devices.

Apply a broad and in-depth working knowledge of telecommunications and remote site infrastructure technology that that promotes reliability and survivability of equipment and services.

Research and analyze data such as customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine the feasibility of design or application.

Create and manage the upkeep of network and mobile system documentation including detailed deployment, test, and support plans.

Troubleshoot devices, wireless, network, and mobile solutions as needed.

Analyze communications concepts that address multi-user systems and complex propagation environments and define requirements for next-generation systems.

Assist the Air Force in the technical analysis of contractor-developed systems. Identify and recommend system improvements.

Troubleshoot and effectively resolve issues with wireless devices and network setup. Work well with internal and external teams to resolve problems.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience and at least five years of applicable communication systems engineering experience or a combination of training and experience.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Communications RF/network technologies.

Experience with microwave communication links, transmitters, receivers, Ethernet and IP data networks, encryption equipment, video transport systems (analog and digital), grounding/lighting/EMI/EMC techniques, UHF/VHF transceivers, hand held portable radios and other military communication systems.

Knowledge and experience configuring Cisco and Juniper devices for layer 2 and 3 transport and also experience with video multicast.

Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and processes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to work in a field environment with work at remote locations. Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders, towers and equipment to a minimum of 50 feet. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must have strong computer and organizational skills. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing. The ability to travel as required by the company. Ability to work odd shifts, long hours, weekends, holidays, changing shifts, and overtime. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other team members and those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Licenses or Certifications Required:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Have a valid NV state issued driver's license.
  • Obtain and maintain CompTIA Security + certification
