Community Interviewer – Rockland County New York
Temporary Assignment (Part-time)

Responsibilities:
The scope of job duties is focused on COVID-19, polio, and other emerging public health threats, including vaccine and testing support, school-focused services, community outreach, case investigation/contact tracing, outbreak/cluster response, and other related response support. The Community Interviewer will have an onsite presence based on the needs of the role, which could require up to 100 percent onsite work. Responsibilities include:

• Establish rapport and communicate effectively with stakeholders from diverse cultures, races, ethnicities, and experiences.
• Collaborate with and maintain appropriate partnerships and resources, including community organizations and schools, based on local health department needs to support COVID-19 response activities.
• Conduct public-facing activities with professionalism.
• Recruiting individuals to participate in one-on-one interviews and group sessions.
• Attending community activities or visiting community locations to outreach for interview sessions.
• Conduct efforts such as scheduling, outreach, and coordination.
• Conduct individual interviews with community residents on health practices.
• Facilitate small group sessions on health practices, including introduction of topics, initial questions, guiding conversation, ensuring all participants speak, and summarizing discussion.
• Provide COVID-19, polio, and other emerging public health condition education and consultation.
• Preparing summary reports on interviews and group sessions.

Qualifications:

• NYS resident with familiarity of NYS geography of cities/towns/locations.
• Preference given to those who live within commuting distance of the official work location.
• Strong preference given to those with cultural experience and competency with diverse communities, including Hasidic Jewish communities.
• A flexible, adaptive, and composed attitude with the ability to interact professionally with individuals.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Experience in interviewing preferred.
• Critical thinking and sound judgment required.
• Outreach skills to engage individuals.
• Organizational capability: scheduling, sending reminders, logistics on meeting locations.
• Writing ability to take notes and brief reports.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Phenomenal work ethic with a positive attitude.
• Employment is contingent on completion of a background check by NY State.
• Own telephone, computer, wireless internet (WiFi) and electronic equipment.
• Must have access to a working PC with Windows 10, Antivirus Protection: Windows Defender and Windows Firewall; or Mac with Apple OS X 10.13, Antivirus Protection: Sophos; and personal mobile device to use for this job.
