The Compensation Analyst


The Albemarle County Public Schools Department of Human Resources is actively recruiting a Compensation Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will perform responsible and specialized work related to Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) compensation programs. This position operates under the guidance and direction of the Program Manager for Compensation and Total Rewards to support the Program Manager-Compensation in developing and implementing competitive compensation programs, policies, and processes for Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) employees.


The Expectations


Essential functions and responsibilities of Compensation Analyst include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Leads the work related to payroll-related tasks including auditing and keying employee transactions, processing paperwork;
  • Acts as liaison with the Payroll Department;
  • Provides assistance to implement new pay programs;
  • Provides guidance to office staff and management on procedures and policies related to HRIS systems;
  • Identifies and keeps management appraised of emergent issues and application of federal and state requirements;
  • Troubleshoots situations; advise management on pay issues, proper job classification, hiring salaries, performance appraisal, and application of policies and federal and state regulations related to compensation;
  • Investigates complex payroll transactions and remedies, accordingly;
  • Assists in conducting job audits, analyzes data, prepares job descriptions, and evaluates jobs using the point-factor evaluation method;
  • Conducts market surveys and analyzes data to make budgetary recommendations for annual salary adjustments;
  • Assists in conducting and providing HR reports and analyses; Investigates and prepares reports on special problems, job evaluations and job audits;
  • Strategically partners with department colleagues to diagnose and remedy complex pay-related issues;
  • Executes critical data collection and timely submits to key vendors and internal partners;
  • Audits internal data to ensure accurateness;
  • Collects and analyzes statistical data; Assists with evaluation of market trends;
  • Back-up to peer Compensation Analyst when necessary;
  • Assists with group presentations explaining details of specified payroll, and compensation programs;
  • Communicates with employees impacted by payroll errors when necessary;
  • Maintains ongoing communications with employees, managers, providers, consultants, and insurance carriers;
  • Explains employee programs and policies, assists in planning workshops and assists in preparation of communication materials;
  • Performs other duties as required.

THE QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience


Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in business or public administration; three years of experience of a responsible nature in the area assigned. Experience in the use of computers, Microsoft office applications, and HRIS/database systems required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Thorough knowledge and ability to become proficient with human resources/payroll information systems. Advanced software skills including Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee information. Thorough knowledge of benefits and compensation. General knowledge of comprehensive human resource function; ability to manage daily operations with little direction. Excellent time management with proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail regarding data entry, reporting and auditing. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form; Ability to leverage technology to streamline processes; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and family members, retirees, payroll, officials, agencies, general public, vendors, providers and consultants.


THE PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS


Work is typically performed in an office setting with occasional extended periods of time at computer terminals. Occasional visits to off-site school and county location are required. Occasional program necessity requires working hours beyond set hours and days. Frequent telephonic and occasional personal contact with Department Heads, Principals, applicants, internal and external organizations at County and State level, employees and the general public is required. Communication may require tact and discretion and cover confidential, sensitive, or controversial material


THE SALARY RANGE


The hiring range for this position is $24.88 - $29.85 per hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA Non-exempt position.
