POSITION SUMMARY

This position is for a full-time Construction Project Engineer within the Construction Service Group. Positions are available in our Saginaw or Bingham Farms office locations.

Job Requirements:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works as part of a team of civil engineering and technical professionals constructing transportation and municipal infrastructure in Michigan
  • Provides administrative and technical direction to Construction Services Technicians
  • Ensures all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc. are adhered to
  • Assists with the implementation/interpretation of safety programs
  • Monitors projects for construction document compliance and QA/QC
  • Conducts close-out procedures and performs post-construction services and investigations as needed
  • Coordinates and conducts construction, technical, and safety training for Construction Services Technicians and other field personnel as required
  • Performs periodic on-site oversight of Field Technicians
  • Assists in the preparation of proposals, meetings with potential clients, and other business development activities
  • Acts as the assistant engineer for MDOT Full Construction Engineering Projects and works directly with the Project Engineer performing duties such as preparing work orders, responding to claims, preparing agendas and meeting minutes for preproduction meetings and progress meetings, reviewing, and responding to shop drawings, working drawings, and requests for information
  • Complies with all applicable safety and environmental requirements
  • Interacts with contractors and their representatives while representing the contract owner

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • E.I.T. certified with the ability to obtain P.E. licensure within 2 years of employment
  • Thorough knowledge of construction (technology, equipment, methods), procedures, and standards
  • MDOT Office Technician Training, AutoCAD experience, Survey experience, Industry training or certifications, and experience related to road/bridge construction management, is preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 3 years of inspection/construction working experience
  • Has a thorough understanding of MDOT construction practices and policies, as well as MDOT standard plans and specifications
