NDDOT Starting Salary: $5,215 per month

  • Underfilling at the Construction Technician III level may be considered, salary dependent on experience

Summary of Work

Survey:

  • Project surveying supervisor on large, complex or on multiple projects and location surveys.
  • Check and verify horizontal and vertical alignment of structural components.
  • Compute and check screed elevations on structure projects, and make grade adjustments, establish new alignment.

Inspection:

  • Inspection and documentation of the contractor’s operations.
  • Preparation of diaries, inspection reports and pay quantity reports.
  • Inspection of contractor’s construction activities to ensure compliance with DOT plan, specifications, and policies.
  • Proficient in the use of the construction automated records system (CARS).

Project Supervision and Management:

  • Provide supervision and management of minor construction projects such as seal coats, patching, striping, signing & lighting, small structures, sampling/testing and survey function on major projects.
  • Chief inspector and second person on larger, more complex construction projects such as major grading, surfacing municipal and structural.
  • Provide daily inspection of contractor operation and Department personnel assigned to project.
  • Direct supervisor on sampling and testing, or the survey function on major projects that require several testing labs or survey crews.

Material Testing:

  • Supervise and/or perform materials testing operations on large or multiple projects.
  • Ensure that materials testing is performed in compliance with DOT specifications.

Training Construction and Temporary Employees

  • Assist in the training of construction survey, various material testing requirements, minor construction inspection duties, plan reading, communication and interpretation of NDDOT specifications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires six years’ work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • (Construction Technician III - Requires four years’ work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Requires a valid North Dakota Class D driver’s license in order to travel to project locations.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, medical screening, reference check and driving records check.
