At B. Riley Financial, the Jr Payroll Administrator is responsible for processing of payroll for various entities. The processing of employee self-service changes to direct deposit, tax withholding and personal information. Additional Duties include maintaining, balancing, and auditing of time and attendance records
Required Skills and Expertise:
· Processes bi-weekly payroll accurately and effectively – and in accordance with state and federal law
· Handle all aspects of payroll processing including the transmission of payroll, special payments, review of uploaded hours and perform calculations, day to day maintenance, direct deposit, and entry of employee records such as withholdings, direct deposits, terms/adds, and, run off cycle check runs as needed
· Assists with processing of final pays
· Enters changes for 401K, ESPP and prepares 401K Transfer files
· Processes approved merit increases, commission, and bonus payments
· Assist employees with questions related to tax set up and ensures accuracy of tax deductions.
· Assist employees with payroll related questions and discrepancies
· Assist with year-end process to ensure timely issuance of accurate Form W-2s and to ensure setup of accurate payroll and benefit deductions the first pay period of the next year
· Verifying employee’s voluntary and involuntary deductions, ensures that deductions are processed accurately
· Processes and responds to all garnishment withholding orders ensuring compliance with withholding instructions
· Responsible for calculating and processing of retroactive payments related to salary changes
· Balances and reconciles commissions, payroll adjustments, taxes and exceptions to employees pay data
· Processes off cycle checks as needed to ensure timely payment of wages
· Ensures that payroll processing and documentation is in line with SOX compliance requirements
· Responsible for providing payroll support to the B Riley Financial management team and other employees as needed
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and additional skills that would be a plus:
- 3-5 years’ experience in a Payroll/HR environment, including in-house payroll processing experience utilizing HRIS software or alike system; preferably UKG Pro or Ceridian Dayforce
- Multi-state payroll processing experience with knowledge of Payroll taxation
- Canadian Payroll experience a plus
- Demonstrated computer skills to include Microsoft office products, particularly Excel (knowledge of Pivot tables, excel formulas and able to work with large data in excel is required) and Microsoft Word.
- HRIS software required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to function in high-pressure situations
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer
- Correctable vision and hearing
- Ability to bend and stoop for filing
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
