Position Summary:

The cost accountant is accountable for preparing the annual spending budget, comparing it to actual results, and reporting on variances from the budget. In addition, the cost accountant will also support other activities of cost accounting. These activities include ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities.

Responsibilities:

• Calculate new product costing
• Calculate and validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
• Report on periodic spending variances and their causes, focusing in particular on operation variances
• Create internal management reports – Business Profitability, Flash, Variance, etc.
• Perform flux analyses on all financial statements
• Respond to report requests and gather data for ad-hoc business requests
• Engage in ongoing cost reduction analyses in all areas of operations
• Coordinate preparation of annual spending budget
• Review proposed budget submissions from department managers for accuracy and completeness
• Act as an advisor to department managers in formulating their budget submissions
• Compare actual to budgeted results at the end of each reporting period, and report on significant spending variances
• Support quarterly field exams from banking institution
• Support interim and annual financial audits
• Support various cost accounting activities

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting with 3-5 years related work experience within a manufacturing industry.
• CPA preferred
• Ability to manipulate and manage large volumes of data.
• Ability to handle multiple projects under time pressure.
• Attention to detail; organized.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivots, v-lookups, data manipulation)
• Exposure to standard costing helpful.
• Adhere to all intellectual property standards, safety, health and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures and encourage/require other personnel to do the same as appropriate
