Primary Objective

• To provide customer assistance in bagging groceries, parcel pick-up service, collection of carts and to provide support in maintaining clean and safe store conditions.

Nature and Scope

• Emphasis in this position is on ensuring customer service for bagging of groceries in the proper manner, placing of groceries in automobile in the proper manner (when parcel pick-up), collection of carts from parking lot in a safe manner and ensuring safe and clean store conditions by mopping, sweeping, scrubbing and pulling cardboard. This position requires ongoing heavy lifting and pushing, walking, exposure to outside conditions and wet surfaces, use of cleaning equipment, social skills/verbal interaction and judgment/decision making. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Daily assignments and work direction are provided by the Store Director or person in charge.

Essential Position Functions

• Ensures customer service for bagging of groceries - asks if paper or plastic - uses the least amount of bags - watches the weight of the bag
• Maintains proper floor conditions - Maintains a clean and dry sales floor at all times - Answers all clean up calls promptly - Cleans up messes and spills promptly and thoroughly
• Assists customers with questions - Answers questions or assists customers with product location - Refers customers to the proper area or individual for help - Assists customers with bagging and carrying out groceries (parcel pick-up)
• Performs other miscellaneous duties - Cleans front-end - Stocks bags at end of registers - Does shop backs
• Follows all store and department policies and procedures

Functional Requirements

• Frequent: Physical - lifting/carrying 50 to 100 lbs., pushing/pulling 70 to 650 lbs., equipment operation (carts, mop, broom, dust mop, scraper, compactor, bags, cleaning utensils), stooping/bending, reaching, walking, turning, kneeling.
• Mental - judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math.
• Environmental - exposure to outside conditions, heat and cold exposure. Subject to inclimate weather.
• Occasional: Physical – standing, walking on uneven ground, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling 650 to 1000 lbs.
