POSITION SUMMARY
The Crating and Shipping Clerk of Shipping, Crating, and Rigging is responsible for performing all work in accordance with crater job functions and providing support for the Shipping Lead. The Clerk will ensure accuracy of records for outgoing shipments; directs movement of shipments, prepares daily reports, and other clerk duties as required. The Clerk of Shipping, Crating, and Rigging reports to the Shipping Lead.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform all work in accordance with crater job functions.
  • Ensure timely and efficient delivery of equipment and products.
  • Build and design proper-sized crates, boxes, and/or frames for small units to extremely large units (10' x 20' and larger).
  • Attach accurate documents to outgoing shipments.
  • Ensures outgoing shipments are accurate, complete, and in proper acceptable condition.
  • Prepares daily reports. Prepares other standard and ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping platform to storage and work areas.
  • Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipments.
  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications. Seals loaded truck doors.
  • Responsible for ordering/replenishing the material and equipment required to build when Lead is out.
  • Work with teams to schedule and prioritize units for timely shipment.
  • Provide shipment weights and dimensions, tracking numbers to appropriate internal and external customers.
  • Move heavy loads without damaging them, tilting, and guiding, as the site requires.
  • Assist Lead in selection and alignment of cranes, gears, pulleys, and winches, anchoring them for safety.
  • Responsible for fastening-up large loads.
  • Assist Lead in teardown, cleaning, and storage of any rigging equipment of machinery used in transport.
  • Assist Lead in communicating with employees that safety is a priority in all shipping and rigging operations.
  • Take Lead in all crane operations when Lead is out.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; OR three years (3) of shipping experience with domestic shipments, LTL, truckload and containerized shipments.
  • Forklift and rigging certifications required. Must be able to obtain and maintain certifications.
  • RF Scanner experience.
  • Basic computer proficiency including ERP system experience.
  • Ability to accurately measure and utilize software to design crates/pallets.
  • Ability in building crates and boxes for shipment of goods.
  • Must possess strong mechanical knowledge.
  • Ability to use power tools, saws, etc. in a safe manner.
  • Able to accurately use basic math skills.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented with a drive for efficiency and accuracy of work.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Valid driver’s license with positive driving record.
VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, operations, or another relative field.
  • Ability to use third party software to design and build shipping crates.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use of eyes for close vision, use hands, fingers, grasp, handle, reach, listen, talk and may need to talk on the telephone while taking notes. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or ask for assistance.

The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently may exceed the normal dBA. The employee is required to wear eye and foot protection in the plant.

Normal working schedule: 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday with some overtime required at times.
