JOB SUMMARY:
This position serves the hospital patient population by assisting to provide direct patient care which meets the assigned unit needs through regular rounding. This position also includes clerical functions and specific patient care duties to facilitate efficient and comprehensive services in critical care areas. The House Supervisor/Nurse Manager may re-assign to other units based on changes of volumes and acuity.

JOB DUTIES:
Customer Service:
1. Demonstrates a professional and compassionate attitude towards patients, families, visitors, coworkers and other departmental representatives.
2. Demonstrates a positive, welcoming and helpful attitude towards all individuals who enter or contact the department.
3. Answers and directs all phone calls in an efficient and courteous manner. Answers patients' call lights promptly and communicates/completes needed patient intervention.
4. Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent information to ensure patient, visitor and employee rights are protected.
5. Handles all organizational information in a manner that ensures strict confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Clerical:
1. Assists with the interdisciplinary team to obtain accurate demographic information.
2. May obtain required signatures at the time of admission and places identification on patient per policy.
3. Maintains and orders ER and ICU unit supplies and stock items. Ensuring that there is an appropriate supply of all forms/packets and supplies utilized within the department
4. Assembles and disassembles patient shadow charts in a timely fashion to facilitate patient flow.
5. Promptly and accurately responds to delegated tasks with in scope of practice.
6. During EPIC downtime, accurately and promptly completes necessary paperwork which assists to ensure tests, consults and treatments are completed.
7. Reports appropriate overhead pages via the paging system to the ED Admitting staff in accordance with established organizational procedures.
8. Completes Release of Information (ROI) process; faxes patient chart information as needed.
9. Maintains a clean and organized workstation.
Patient Care Duties:
1. Assists in the delivery of patient care as directed to include: transfers, ambulation, feeding, dressing, bathing, weighing, and toileting.
2. Transports or assists with the transporting of patients.
3. Promptly delivers specimens and supplies within the hospital.
4. Reports significant events and actions promptly to the RN.
5. Responds promptly to all patient safety alarms, i.e. call lights, bed and chair alarms.
6. Applies monitors and reports to the RN the effectiveness of any safety device and/or mobility alarm.
7. Participates in 30 minute rounding for patient safety checks and customer service.
8. Initiates the cleaning of patient care areas upon discharge and prepares the room for new admission by disinfecting, changing of linen, restocking room supplies, removing garbage and readying equipment.
General:
1. Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with hospital safety, disaster and emergency procedures.
2. Cleans and disinfects equipment as needed keeping unit clean and organized.
3. Attends required in-services and a minimum of 50% yearly attendance at unit staff meetings.
4. Understands and adheres to departmental policies and procedures.
5. Care is delivered with adherence to the policies and procedures of Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.
6. Performs and demonstrates competency for all CNA responsibilities for patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Graduate of a Nursing Aide or EMT program, current listing on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry preferred.
  • BLS Certification or ability to obtain within two months of hire and maintains certification.
  • Experience in an ambulatory or inpatient health care setting with ability to multi-task and manage multiple patient/family/nursing/physician priorities within short time frames preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to and follow Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital Mission, Values, Vision and policies.
  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
