The Radiology Technologist is responsible for satisfactory independent operation of radiation producing equipment; for the performance of CT examinations, routine radiographic procedures including but not limited to, mobile radiography, planar imaging, tomographic imaging, fluoroscopy and computed tomography; and also for routine clerical responsibilities including patient scheduling, filing and copying exams and reports.

This is a technical position requiring training in the field of radiology technology. Individual is responsible for performing radiographic examinations, assisting radiologist and other physicians during fluoroscopic studies, in addition to performing exams in the emergency room and the patients rooms. All radiographers will be expected to maintain current knowledge of the profession and to utilize reference material to adequately address or discuss imaging difficulties encountered subsequent to either patient or equipment problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITES:

  • Performs diagnostic studies and additional technical assignments as necessary for daily completion of patient exams.
  • Transports patients to the imaging department for procedures and back to patient room upon completion as needed.
  • Assists the radiologist in special interventional or diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintains exposure rooms, darkroom and all peripheral equipment in clean, working order, and reports failures to supervisor.
  • Maintains current registration and hospital annual requirements for personnel such as infection control, CPR, continuing education, and other required in-services.
  • Communicates with nursing personnel or physician as required to assure that an accurate, relevant patient history is provided for the radiologist prior to the interpretation of examinations.
  • Assures the availability of necessary supply items for the normal execution of services prior to the initiation of any procedure.
  • Assists as required in the orientation of new personnel or volunteers.
  • Maintains awareness of local Quality Improvement efforts through attendance of department meetings and contributes to those efforts through active participation.
  • Assesses and attends to the needs of patients, provides each patient with the greatest diagnostic or therapeutic benefit while assuring the patient’s dignity is not compromised.
  • Communicates politely and displays professional conduct with patients, families and staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Graduate of an accredited or recognized school of Radiology Technology preferred.

American Registry of Radiology Technology or registry eligible preferred.

High School Diploma or GED required.

Current BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to walk or stand for long periods.

Ability to move heavy patients and equipment.

Repeated bending, squatting, and stooping.

Normal or corrected vision and hearing.

Reaching and bending, including reaching above shoulder height.

Ability to lift, carry, push, pull a minimum of 50 pounds.

Ability to perform shift work including working 12 hour shifts

Ability to communicate with employees, patients and visitors.

Ability to remain calm under stress.
