Position summary:
The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for three Curatorial Assistant openings. Assisting with the dynamic collection gallery presentations at MoMA, the Curatorial Assistants work with the Assistant Director of Curatorial Affairs and the Museum’s six Chief Curators, offering a cross-departmental and cross-functional experience. The incumbents will support in all areas of collection display responsibilities from object and subject research to curatorial administrative functions such as object viewings, data entry and management, bibliographic and biographical record and file keeping, among others. This work will involve collaboration across all Museum departments to organize the system of constantly evolving displays in pursuit of sharing expanded, and field-evolving histories of modern and contemporary art.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Assists with all aspects of research, planning, organization, checklist development, display requirements, installation and related programming of collection gallery presentations.
- Collaborates on project management of collection presentations across teams.
- Writes, edits, and assists in the coordination and production of Museum interpretative materials, including wall texts and extended object labels.
- Performs exhibition research and administrative support functions, including bibliographic and checklist research, loan correspondence, publication research and production, website development, and public program planning.
- Assists in the maintenance of the collection and loans, and expedites arrangements for registration, conservation, custodial, and preparation work as required in the gallery, study and storage areas.
- Functions as a liaison and ambassador for the collection program with other departments within the Museum and outside persons and organizations.
- Contributes to collection stewardship efforts, including conducting daily gallery inspections of works on view and assisting with follow-up arrangements in the event of damage, deterioration, etc.
- Answers inquiries and conducts gallery tours as necessary for visitors, etc.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in art history or a related field; graduate degree holders also welcome to apply. Relevant work experience.
- Collaborative spirit and interest in institutional perspective.
- Enthusiasm for sharing MoMA’s collection with audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a complex project and manage one’s time accordingly.
- A positive and diplomatic approach to communication.
- Seasoned research and writing skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and other standard office procedures and skills.
- Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS) is helpful.

Reports to : Assistant Director, Curatorial Affairs and to Senior Curatorial Titles as assigned
Salary: The salary for this position is $63,989 per annum
