POSITION TITLE: Building Custodian JOB CODE: 457
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & Facilities PAY TYPE (FSLA): Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Building Administration; PAY GRADE:
Head Custodian
RETIREMENT: PSERS WORK DAYS: 190-240

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent; ability to keep required work records.
Ability to climb and work from ladders, portable stairs, and scaffolding; ability to lift and/or carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) for more than 20 feet; willing to work in undesirable locations/conditions. Must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions and perform work assignments in a timely and effective manner.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Sweep or vacuum halls enough times during the day to keep pleasingly clean.
● Mop all tile areas according to a routine schedule or more frequently if required.
● Clean all restrooms thoroughly daily and supply necessary articles routinely as needed.
● Clean water fountains daily and remove marks, graffiti, etc. from walls. Monitor and restock soap and paper products in restrooms according to a regular schedule or timely as requested.

● Remove trash from each classroom as necessary.
● Keep halls and exits free of obstructions at all times.
● Clean student and teacher furniture routinely.
● Vacuum all carpeted areas routinely.
● Clean all glass doors as often as necessary to remove stains.
● Keep walks leading to buildings free of papers and/or trash and wash as necessary.
● Observe and report the need for repairs and/or maintenance in a timely manner.
● Work independently but on occasion assist maintenance and other personnel as requested.
● Upon assignment by head custodian or principal, work together with other custodians in cleaning large areas such as gymnasiums, cafeterias, etc.
● Report to the principal for any duties that may occur for special activities.
● Operate all equipment in a responsible manner observing all safety rules, yielding to pedestrian traffic at all times.
● Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner.
● Participate in training to increase the skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
● Implement and adhere to appropriate safety procedures and crisis emergency plans to create and sustain a secure and healthy learning environment consistent with district and school rules, policies, and procedures.

● Carry out duties in accordance with federal and state laws, Code of Ethics for Educators in
Georgia, and established state and local policies, regulations, and practices.

● Perform, professionally and efficiently, all other duties as assigned.
