Position Function:

Maintenance of buildings and grounds belonging to the organization, overseeing the upkeep of equipment and supplies, determining and scheduling repairs or renovation projects, regular daily cleaning of facilities, and coordinating safety inspections to keep in line with OSHA, federal, state, and local codes. This may include minor electrical, electronic, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and mechanical operations. Grounds may include light landscaping, snow and ice removal, and other seasonal assigned duties. Work directly with Pantry Coordinator to help unload truck deliveries and large donations. Will also be the first responder for the security system and fire alarm system.

Job Description:

  • Oversee buildings and grounds, ensure facility is fully operational, perform routine and preventative maintenance
  • Respond to trade, security, and fire alarm system calls; reset if needed
  • Maintain and operate custodial duties daily throughout the Spring Street location
  • General facility maintenance including changing indoor and outdoor bulbs, ballasts, switches, receptacles, ceiling tiles, various fixtures, hardware, etc
  • Review submitted work orders and repair as requested or outsource vendors/contractors

Job Description (continued):

  • General custodial responsibilities including but not limited to vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, restocking, disinfecting, trash removal, and other assigned duties
  • Prepare proposal of repair quotes including pricing and scheduling that will not interfere with facility activities when possible
  • Schedule and supervise repair work; assist with servicing and installation when needed
  • Anticipate upcoming expenses for facilities based on wear and tear or age of equipment
  • Schedule proper waste management; ex: office paper shredding/recycling
  • Coordinate the set up and take down of center events, parties, and expos
  • Assist in unloading pantry truck order and large pantry donations
  • Outdoor upkeep; light landscaping including weeding, planting flowers, maintaining clear parking lot, etc
  • Work with snow removal contactor; light snow and ice removal may be needed
  • Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance
  • Attend staff meetings, prepare a monthly staff report for the Board of Directors
  • Communication with contractors, vendors, and team should be a priority; follow up on all outsourced jobs and maintenance requests
  • Required to be available for working public events several times a year that occur outside of the five-day work week; ex: street fairs, community days, etc

(Comparable time off will be prearranged with approval)

  • Attend training and information sessions relevant to the position or agency with approval of the Executive Director
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects assigned by the Executive Director

Decision Making Authority:

Decisions that you can make on your own without a higher level of review:

  • Interfacing with staff, clients, and program participants
  • Complete maintenance requests and follow up with requester
  • Initiate repair activity
  • Collect quotes for outsourced work
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Prioritizing tasks

Decisions that require higher authority approval:

  • Initiate work that would prevent disruption to programs
  • Scheduling services from outside support service contractors

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Required ongoing physical activity throughout the work day; including standing, walking, climbing, crouching, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling
  • Must be able to function under stress
  • Must be able to pass random drug and controlled substance tests

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor: Hot, cold, noisy, poorly lit, dirty or clean confined spaces, office setting
  • Outdoor: Hot, cold, dirty, wet
  • Exposure to certain mechanical and electrical hazards

Safety Precautions must be taken to prevent injury to incumbent and others:

  • Use appropriate PPE, lockout and tag out procedures
  • Use extreme caution to prevent electrical shock hazards
  • Standard electrical and mechanical safety precautions
  • Maintain OSHA standards, federal, state, and local codes
  • Safe use of ladders

Educations and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational schooling (preferred)
  • Facility manager experience (preferred)

Required License or Certification:

  • Possess a valid and current Pennsylvania driver’s license (CDL preferred)

Work Schedule:

  • Part time – up to 34 hours a week
  • Normal working hours and additional services as needed
  • Additional time required must be prearranged with the Executive Director

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 per hour
