Job Summary

The Dental Assistant Apprentice will participate in PCHS’s Dental Assisting Program where they will receive hands on training to work as a Registered Dental Assistant.

Upon completion of the program, the student will become a Dental Assistant and work collaboratively with the dental team in providing support for dental providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist dentist chairside during various procedures; accurately charting existing and proposed treatments
  • Perform x-rays and intraoral photos, as needed
  • Take impression, pour up models and correspond with labs as needed
  • Use and perform spore tests; record and maintain the results on file
  • Keep operatories and sterilization area fully stocked, organized and safe, assisting the dental coordinator in inventory, storage and ordering of supplies
  • Effectively sanitize procedure area after each patient, in accordance with OSHA standards and prepare area for the next patient
  • Conduct routine maintenance of equipment to include changing traps, filters and flushing water lines, maintaining the developer and sterilizer, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of dental materials, dental procedures, oral hygiene procedures, and sterilization/disinfection procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct reports.

Qualifications

  • Registered as a Dental Assistant with Washington State DOH (required)
  • Active CPR Certification (required)
  • Valid driver’s license (required)
  • One (1) year of customer service experience (preferred)

Benefits and Compensation

PCHS offers a wide variety of benefits through a customizable cafeteria plan. For pay equity purposes, PCHS calculates salaries based on a wage scale that incorporates a standardized approach to compensation. Accordingly, PCHS does not engage in salary negotiations for non-provider staff.

Range: $15.87-$20.10

Possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; time-management and organizational skills, including being punctual, responsive, and efficient. Perform job with professionalism and good judgment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

With multiple locations and settings, PCHS’ work environment and physical demands vary greatly depending on the employee’s role. Essential job functions include the following: The employee is required to talk, hear, see, smell, sit and stand. The employee is frequently required to move around the facility; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
