Job Summary:

A dental receptionist is, among other things, the representative of a dental office. They are the first person a patient speaks to, and are an important part of establishing the patient’s relationship with the office. A dental receptionist is responsible for making sure that the operations of a dental office run smoothly so that the dental professionals can concentrate on patient care and dental treatment.

Essential Duties:

  • Greet and welcome patients to the practice
  • Assist patients to complete all necessary forms and documentation
  • Verify and update patient information and insurance data
  • Inform patients of dental office procedures and policies
  • Maintain and manage patient records in compliance with HIPPA
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phone calls, photocopying, filing, and faxing
  • Scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling patient appointments
  • Confirm upcoming appointments
  • Inform patients of financial treatment plan options
  • Help monitor inventory of front office supplies
  • Maintain a professional and neat reception area

Education and Experience (preferred, but not necessary)

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures and diagnosis
  • Knowledge in dental practice management software (Dentrix)
  • Knowledge of general administrative procedures
  • Working knowledge of dental insurance
