Summary:

The Design Drafter primary focus is to design, coordinate and manage projects from start of design to end of construction. The designer will be responsible for coordinating with engineers, designers and drafters to generate Process & Instrument Diagram drawings (P&IDs), develop station/facility layout and manage the development of and review process flow diagrams, piping plans, 3D drawings and other related mechanical / electrical / instrumentation / civil / process drawings.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duties satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
  • Be able to review, direct and lead the design on projects of varying magnitude and complexity and handle assignments with minimal supervision, while completing within acceptable time standards
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of individuals/employees both in person and remote settings
  • Understand construction methods and have an appreciation of business demands
  • Have knowledge of piping, electrical and instrumentation design principles, construction codes and standards
  • Have an awareness of the environmental and regulatory impact of design ideas
  • Have strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach for generating new ideas and workflow processes
  • Complete computer drawings showing general arrangement plan and elevation
  • Review design instructions, plot plan, flow diagrams and supplier information
  • Create drawings in CadWorx and AutoCad
  • Ability to check drawings dimensionally
  • Develop Bills of Material (BOM) relative to design documentation
  • Be able to develop and/or review an array of mechanical, electrical and civil project design documentation, including: piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), plot plans, isometrics, equipment list, line indexes and material balance tables
  • Knowledge of natural gas compressor stations, processing and treating operations preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of Compress Codeware to run ASME code calcs, plus but not required
  • Understanding of GIS and GIS information exchange needs, plus but not required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Current valid driver's license required
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, standards applicable government requirements

Required education:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate Degree preferred or Technical Degree

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • 2-5 years of related job experience

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Driving, walking, standing frequently.
  • Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions and some heavy lifting
    Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Must live within 40 miles of reporting location
