The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks caring and compassionate applicants for the role of Developmental Services Worker IV (DSW IV) who have experience working with individuals with intellectual disability. This position provides direct supports for individuals residing in an emergency respite program that offers short and long term residential services, as well as, intensive clinical, medical and psychiatric services. The DSW IV position is responsible for providing individuals with support that fosters and reinforces choice, health, safety and welfare, positive role modeling and developmental and maintenance of relationships with community members/organizations, family and friends.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
  • Provides support for individuals residing in the stabilization program in order to foster prosocial and safe behavior.
  • Supervises the Stabilization Program residential staff as assigned by the Residential Supervisor C.
  • Ensure that DSW's III assigned to the Stabilization Program are adequately trained to be able to competently support the individuals residing in the Program.
  • Assists/teaches individual personal management skills in: eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, clothing, maintenance, self-preservation, and manners to ensure that the human rights of the individuals are respected.
  • Interacts with individuals and families of individuals, and co-workers in a positive, respectful, responsive, and open manner, as necessary to being a "team player".
  • Promotes the rights and dignity of all individuals: fosters community membership and relationship building.
  • Participates and includes individual's input whenever possible, in development of Individual Service Plans for each individual.
  • Carries out intervention strategies to promote individuals personal growth and development.
  • Ensures the safety and well being of the individuals.
  • Direct Care Staff roles and responsibilities in the safe administration of medication.

Schedule: 2:30 - 10:30 PM
Days off: Friday/Saturday

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have (A) at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in providing direct support services to persons with developmental/ intellectual, emotional or physical disabilities, of which (B) at least one (1) year must have been in a supervisory or leadership capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. An Associate’s degree or higher with a major in a human services field, including sociology, special education, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or other related field may be substituted for a maximum one (1) year of the required (A) experience.
Incumbents are required to possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment.
