Direct Support Professional – Job Summary

Seeking caring, competent, detail-oriented staff to work with individuals in an Independent Supported Living (ISL) or Group Home setting.

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for assisting individuals supported to become as independent as possible by teaching independent living skills and providing the level of assistance required for the individual to be successful. NorthStar Residential Care, Inc. provides supports to individuals with developmental disabilities and is licensed by the Missouri Department of Mental Health through its Medicaid Waiver Certification.

Qualifications and Skills

Requires High School Diploma or equivalent, reliable transportation, current driver’s license, current First Aid and CPR training, current Level 1 Medication Aide certification, eligibility to work in the U.S., and a criminal background check.

Essential Functions

  • Provide the level of supervision required to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals supported.
  • Advocate for individuals supported.
  • Provide input into and implement all aspects of the Individualized Support Plan (ISP).
  • Administer medications as indicated on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) for each individual supported.
  • Assist the individuals supported to develop independent living skills in such a way that promotes dignity and reflects the wishes of the individuals supported.
  • Provide transportation to persons served.
  • Maintain proper levels of communication with NorthStar administration and all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure opportunities for community integration activities.
  • Maintain and operate all areas and programs to Department of Mental Health and Medicaid Waiver Certification standards.
  • Attend and pass all required trainings as scheduled. (CPR & First Aid, Level 1 Medication Aide, Positive Behavior Supports, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.)
  • Follow all policies and procedures as written in the NorthStar Residential Care, Inc. Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Provide all required documentation at the end of each shift worked and file per HIPAA requirements.

Secondary Functions

  • Report all facility maintenance needs to the Office Manager or Director.
  • Perform general housecleaning chores as needed.
  • Attend all meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor or other administrative staff.

Benefits

Paid leave time and time-and-a-half overtime pay for all hours worked over 40 hours in a week.

  • Providing support with hobbies, studies, and social activities

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
