OVERVIEW:
Urban One is changing the landscape of broadcast radio, launching new media products and services to our clients. We are seeking a Director of Content to create strategy, drive audience traffic and oversee all content, traffic, and streaming objectives for R1 Digital (the digital arm of Radio One’s local and REACH Media divisions), including content initiatives, both internal and external, across multiple platforms and formats to drive traffic, streaming, engagement, retention and positive customer behavior on Radio One’s local and REACH’s syndicated digital platforms; managing team of online editors/producers/writers; primary editorial liaison to help identify product development, both in collaboration with in-house iOne team as well as third-party vendors; maintains the digital programming budget; as well as working closely with Radio One’s terrestrial programming team to ensure continuity with on-air initiatives. This position includes a market competitive salary position with annual incentives aligned with meeting strategic goals and can be remote in the following cities: Washington, DC Metropolitan, Atlanta, GA, Indianapolis, IN, Charlotte, NC, or Dallas, TX.
This individual is an expert in all things related to digital content, social media, streaming, analytics, and trends. The position collaborates with the GM/EVP Digital and iOne executive team, market PDs and GMs, VP Programming of Radio One/REACH, and the VP Digital Sales, Sr. Director of Sales Ops, and others to define the strategy and direction of Radio One’s content on all digital platforms.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Working closely with the GM/EVP Digital, VP Digital Sales and the PDs, Radio One, to establish and direct the strategic vision, traffic goals, content team, policies, and procedures for Radio One and REACH Media’s digital content initiatives (online and on other digital delivery platforms) for the Radio One owned-and-operated station and syndicated personality brands
· Recruiting, hiring, managing, and empowering a nationwide staff of Online Editors, Digital Content Producers, Video Producers and Writers to implement the strategic vision through the following means and others that may be identified:
o Ensuring all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels of content including online, social media, email, mobile, video and in-person
o Assessing usage trends, assimilating user feedback, and translating them into feature/functionality enhancements; and
o Developing and maintaining performance assessment criteria and programming calendar for the Content Team
· Mapping out a content strategy that supports and extends sales and marketing initiatives, both short- and long-term, determining which methods work for the brand and why. Continuous evolvement of strategy is a must
· Working with the iOne Product team to determine what products and vendors should be developed, bought or partnered with to ensure platforms are best of breed and provide the best user experience
· Developing standards, systems, and best practices (both human and technological) for content creation, distribution, maintenance, content retrieval and content repurposing, including the real-time implementation of content strategies
· Oversee R1 digital content budget, managing costs, and organizational structure
· Responsible to provide frequent feedback on content management system performance, required refinements and desired innovations with the iOne product team
· Some travel may be required; on an as needed basis to various markets
· Fulfilling other responsibilities as established and directed by the GM/EVP Digital
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

· Experience managing and driving digital content operations over multi-markets and/or top 20 market experience preferred
· Ability to confidently present information in large group settings
· Great project management, organizational, and planning skills
· Excellent storytelling, editing and proofreading skills, and an ability to distil complex concepts into engaging and accessible content
· Ability to work cross-functionally and maintain consistent communication across team and departments
· Having experience in driving and managing content strategies for a business in a highly competitive environment
· Background with working/managing brand, design, or creative team(s)/individuals
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
8 years related experience working in digital media creation, online content development, editing, and publishing. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
