Job Summary: Director of Pharmacy Operations / Pharmacist-in-Charge

Under direction of the Chief Medical Officer and in close partnership with executive leaders, the 340B Program Manager, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, practice managers, and others, the Pharmacist-in-Charge, Director of Pharmacy Operations (the PIC) provides the leadership necessary to assure that Jane Pauley Community Health Center (JPCHC)

  • operates a fully compliant, financially sustainable, patient-centered, retail pharmacy service,
  • is positively impacting JPCHC patients’ wellness, health, and chronic disease management through meaningful integration of pharmacy expertise with the broader clinical enterprise, and
  • is maximizing the benefits of JPCHC’s participation in the 340B program.

The PIC demonstrates behaviors consistent with professional standards of practice, care, and the mission, values, policies, and goals of JPCHC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serves as the Pharmacist-In-Charge, supporting the requirements for licensure of the Jane Pauley Community Health Center Ambulatory Pharmacy (the Pharmacy).
  • Assures the Pharmacy and all its initiatives are conducted in a fashion fully compliant with relevant state and federal rules and regulations, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) regulations, 340B Program regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Develops and manages the Pharmacy in a highly efficient, cost-effective, financially sustainable fashion, in accordance with JPCHC’s Mission and goals.
  • Leadership and direction of members of the Pharmacy Department
  • Recruits and selects pharmacists, technicians, and other staff essential to achieve Pharmacy’s goals.
  • Identifies and advises organizational leadership on budgetary and staffing needs to achieve the Pharmacy’s goals.
  • Participates in the development of long-range strategic pharmacy operations plans for JPCHC.
  • Assures a posture of continual readiness for responding to on-site reviews, visits, and audits by federal or state authorities.
  • Develops key performance indicators to monitor outcomes for pharmacy operations and applicable clinical programs.
  • Participates and assists with committees, meetings, and team projects related to pharmacy practice and policy, clinical protocols, and other relevant processes.
  • Provides leadership for collaborative efforts with community partners related to this scope of work.
  • Is a student of continuous improvement and high reliability concepts and works to strengthen organizational capacity and impact with these skills.
  • Identifies and helps to eliminate unbeneficial variations in pharmacy processes.
  • Supports a culture of event detection, reporting, analysis, resolution, improvement, and learning.
  • Serves as a visible, influential, leader and coach of JPCHC team members:
  • Assists in identifying and addressing the learning needs of team members related to ambulatory pharmacy practice. (ie outpatient antibiotic stewardship, pharmaceutical deprescribing, chronic disease management, INSPECT program, etc.)
  • Aids with the development of JPCHC policies and procedures as they relate to pharmacy practice.
  • Provides input on and assumes appropriate levels of responsibility for compliance and achievement of grant expectations related to this scope of work.

Education and/or Experience:

  • PharmD received from a school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
  • Business graduate degree (MS, MBA, MHA) preferred.
  • Ambulatory pharmacy residency preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible pharmacy management and leadership experience in a community or hospital/ambulatory setting required.
  • Experience and familiarity with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) model of care.
  • Experience and familiarity with 340B pharmacy program as it relates to FQHC model of care.
  • Knowledge of concepts of disease management and population health management.
  • Experience with project management, Six Sigma, lean, or other improvement methodology. Formal certification in lean or six-sigma preferred.
  • Attributes of being highly organized, attending to detail, strong follow-up skills, taking initiative, persuasive, and mission-focused with well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibits professionalism and confidentiality with all aspects of information in accordance with practice, State and Federal regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills including with Microsoft Office and electronic health records.
  • Ability to firmly manage relationships with vendors to the benefit of JPCHC and its patients

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Indiana Pharmacy license, without restrictions.
  • American Pharmacists Association Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider certificate
