WORKING ON THE CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH COMMUNICABLE DISEASE TEAM
CDPH works with communities and partners to create an equitable, safe, resilient and Healthy Chicago. As a part of the CDPH Disease Control Bureau, you will engage residents, healthcare facilities, and partners in policies and services that prioritize residents and healthcare facilities with the greatest need.



ROLE SUMMARY
As an essential member of the Communicable Disease program within Disease Control Bureau, the Director of Public Health Operations role is responsible for the operational and administrative functions of a public health program under the Bureau. In addition, this position includes the development of program strategies, budgets, and timelines for program implementation.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Planning. Directs and coordinates the planning, strategic objectives, and operations of this major public health program. Develops and administers procedures, protocols, and standards. Works with management in developing work plans and performance measures for the Program.
Program Supervision. Monitors and manages contracts, budgets, and performs related administrative functions. Oversees the fiscal management of the program, including grant proposals. Monitors federal, state, and other grant program requirements. Supervises, schedules, and assigns subordinate staff responsible for delivering public health services. Monitors and directs all activities of subcontractors and delegate agencies, including compliance, quality management, training, and receiving program funds. Manages the development and implementation of employee training and staff development and conducts training seminars on programmatic health care subjects.
Bureau Liaison. Serves as a liaison between the Bureau and other government officials, representatives of local and regional health care agencies, and the general public to coordinate the planning and implementation of public health programs. Represents the department in meetings and special task force initiatives to address various community and public health issues. Supports and coordinates with community organizations, hospitals, and other public health and health care organizations to align with the City’s Public Health plans and initiatives.



Additional duties may be required for this position.



Location: 1340 S. Damen
Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 8:30am to 4:30pm

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration or a field of study directly related to the responsibilities of the position
Experience
  • Six years of work experience in the planning, implementation, or administration of social service, public health, or public service programs
  • Three years of work experience are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience provided that the minimum degree requirement is met


OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES, AND ABILITIES
  • Deep understanding of public health or healthcare administration, contracts, budgets, grants, and requests for proposals
  • Skilled in supervisory methods, practices and procedures
  • Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding COVID-19 preferred
  • Knowledgeable in government or large organization policies, procedures, rules, and regulations

This position is funded by a federal grant. These funds may be extended, but CDPH cannot guarantee this position will be funded past July 2024.
