Position Summary

VMware is seeking a Director, Business Operations, reporting to the Vice President for Tech/ISV Partners & Ecosystem Strategy team within Strategic Ecosystem & Industry Solutions (SEIS) organization. This individual will balance a mix of operational, programmatic, and strategic responsibilities in support of this business. It is a critical role with a high visibility within VMware. The Director, Business Operations, has experience in a wide range of areas with an eagerness to learn new skills. The individual will need to be persuasive, diplomatic, and have strong communication skills; a systems and process-thinker, adept at converting abstract ideas into smooth operations reducing the number of fires that need to be extinguished. It is very important that this individual excels at building relationships and networks and can influence others across all functional areas of VMware to achieve outcomes. It is crucial that this individual is deeply loyal and a steel-trap with confidential information as well as comfortable behind the stage, supporting the person in the spotlight, helping them to be their best-selves and anticipating needs.

The Role

The Director, Business Operations will assist in driving Tech/ISV/Telco Partner initiatives and MSP/OEM route to market initiatives across the business including coordination with the SEIS pillars on ecosystem strategy. Based in the U.S., the Director, Business Operations will be the eyes and ears, assisting the Vice President in executing key activities and initiatives, globally and cross-functionally.

Responsibilities, in partnership with SEIS COS

Key Operational and Strategic Reviews and Meetings

  • Coordinates the cadence and content for business, operational, and strategic reviews
  • Drives prioritization and adoption of programs for SEIS and targets. Provides ownership of key initiatives and holds teams accountable and moves change forward
  • Helps lead and initiate change throughout the organization, including but not limited to significantly improving overall business acumen and governance (performance metrics) as well as operational, organizational, and financial aspects of the business
  • Drives business operations transformation, identifying efficiency opportunities and establishing associated initiatives to improve performance and success of the team
  • Coordinates/drives the execution of the SEIS priorities and plan
  • Drives special projects and initiatives tied to SEIS Transformation priorities (be a utility player)
  • Works closely with finance on Budget and head count management, including compensation
  • Drives the annual and semi-annual planning process, headcount allocation, and portfolio management, working closely with Finance
  • Drives the financial reporting, including quarterly and monthly reporting (ex., QBRs), working closely with Finance
  • Prepares for updates and business reviews with the partner team and SEIS leadership – supports Sr Director in preparation of meetings, including presentations
  • Facilitates all hands meetings, Dr/Sr Director Forums, management meetings, leadership offsites, Business reviews (agendas, action items, etc.)

Partners

  • Drives the cadence and reporting on external partners, including establishing a standardized framework, as well as systems/tools, for periodic meetings and measuring success (identifying key performance indicators and how to measure SEIS team and partner performance)
  • Orchestrate on behalf of the team the rhythm of business related to new routes to market and new/ emerging partnerships in support of VMware strategy.

Communications

  • Partners with Communications and Marketing to drive regular cadence of communications to various stakeholders including internal employees and external audiences
  • Drives communications for key initiatives across the SEIS leadership team and cross-functionally, as needed

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in Program Management, Strategy and/or Business Operations.
  • Has spent time in roles such as Program Management, Business Transformation and Business Operations.
  • Been responsible for cross functional project and program management
  • Ideally a VMware employee who is well respected within the organization for EPIC 2 values
  • Ability to apply analytical expertise to influence decision making and serve as a broker and facilitate cross-functional collaboration in discussions/conflicts to achieve optimal results
  • Broad business experience driving execution and adoption of key strategic programs across large teams
  • Ability to work in a flexible manner in line with the organization’s objectives and willingness to undertake other duties as reasonably requested
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Strong financial analysis, budget planning and management experience skills
  • Holds people accountable for achieving their goals
  • Diplomatic approach
  • Leads by example, creating a sense of energy, ownership, and personal commitment to the work
