Job Description Summary

Direct and coordinate the activities of the Victim/Witness Unit; serve as liaison between the Unit and human service agencies involved with victims and witnesses; provide direct services to victims; provide administrative direction regarding victim rights issues.


Job Responsibilities

Provide direct services to victims of crime to include assistance in filing for protection orders and victim compensation. Accompany victims to court and explain the criminal justice system and services provided by the Victim/Witness Unit. Coordinate resources and efforts of the Unit in cooperation with other agencies involved in the criminal justice system and victim services. Maintain liaisons with service agencies for the purpose of referral; ensure that all needed and appropriate contacts are made for eligible victims. Maintain contact and involvement with appropriate Federal and State organizations for the purpose of enhancing victim programs and the advocacy of victims’ rights. Research and write grants to obtain funding for staffing to assist crime victims. Supervise, recruits and train volunteers.


Minimum Education & Requirements

High school diploma/GED and previous training or experience in human services field required with criminal justice, counseling, human services or social work degree preferred. Must possess good character as determined by thorough background investigation. Valid Nebraska Driver’s License required.

Speech: Frequently express ideas by means of spoken words

Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Frequently operates equipment requiring moderate ability

Manual Dexterity: Frequently operates equipment requiring moderate ability


Residency Requirement

This position has a thirty (30) minute response time by way of the most direct route from the employee’s permanent residence to the employee’s assigned work site and within posted speed limits.
