At the same time, you will learn the basics on how to become a successful professional driver for Palmer-Donavin.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities:

During your apprenticeship you will need to log 500 hours of drive time behind the wheel. This will be done with the help of current, seasoned company drivers – your mentors. You’ll have the opportunity to ride with several different drivers so that you can get a clear picture of what it takes to be a successful driver for Palmer-Donavin. Your mentors will help you learn the basic, technical driving skills needed to obtain your CDL as well as the knowledge necessary to be a successful driver. Here are the stages in the Apprenticeship phase.

1. Ride with a seasoned Palmer-Donavin CDL driver while s/he makes deliveries. Then you will drive the empty truck back to the branch.
2. Drive our equipment on our grounds. Practice backing and maneuvering the truck with a mentor.
3. Drive the transfer truck to practice driving with a load.
4. Drive the job site truck.
5. Drive a route and deliver products with your mentor.
6. Complete online training in UltiPro Learning designed to educate you on proper operation and care of the equipment in preparation for the final skills test to obtain your Class A CDL.
7. Complete classroom Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) with a certified provider.

After completing the above requirements and 500 hours driving, it will be time to take the skill and driving tests with the state. You may use our equipment to take the test. You will pay the cost of the tests, but the company will reimburse the cost of successful tests after you have passed the exams and obtained your license. You will pay for the cost of the license, if applicable. Palmer-Donavin will run your MVR again as a final condition to your promotion.

Participation Requirements: *

1. Have a valid U.S. driver’s license for at least the past year.
2. Be at least 23 years old.
3. Have proof of U.S. Residency or Green Card.
4. Be able to speak and read English sufficient to read signs and converse with law enforcement.
5. Have and maintain an acceptable criminal history and driving record (MVR).
6. Pass a 10-panel drug test.
7. Complete the Driver Apprentice Application.
8. Sign the Driver Apprentice Contract.
9. Obtain a CDL permit and medical card within 30 days of hire.
