POSITION SUMMARY: The Driver assumes responsibility for the safe and timely transport of supplies, equipment, mail and other hospital related materials according to a predetermined schedule or specific instructions. The Driver performs routine maintenance on hospital vehicles and performs warehouse, inventory management and receiving duties as necessary.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.


Experience:

Must have two years of experience as driver.


License/Certification:

Required: A current Louisiana Drivers License and maintain an excellent driving record.

Preferred: Completion of a Defensive-Driving Course, Commerical driving endorsement


Successful candidates will need knowledge of city codes, and city streets.


POSITION DUTIES: Picks up and delivers supplies, equipment, mail, pharmaceuticals, and other related materials to/from main campus to designated offsite locations. Adheres to the established times on the pick-up/delivery schedule. Responds promptly to cell phone and beeper requests. Obeys all driving rules and regulations, according to the State of Louisiana.


  • Obtains legible signatures for all deliveries, if applicable.
  • Maintains accurate logs for designated deliveries
  • Maintains temperature/humidity logs in accordance with SOP.
  • Fuels, checks fluid levels and tire air pressure on assigned vehicle.
  • Performs pre- and post-operation checklist in accordance with SOP.
  • Reports operational problems.
  • Keeps cab and cargo area clean and clutter free on a daily basis. As required, performs weekly deep cleaning of vehicle.
  • Periodically inspects exterior of vehicle for damage.
  • Provides assistance at the main warehouse which includes but not limited to: transport of furniture, medical equipment, supplies and files.
  • Assists in maintenance of Central Supply warehouse which includes trash removal and rotation of stock supplies.
  • Assists in all aspects of the Receiving Clerk position.
  • Delivers freight to all locations as appropriate, and completes necessary delivery confirmation – may assist with put away to augment workflow during periods of high census
  • Delivers special purchase items to the requesting area and obtains authorized signature of the recipient for the release of such items

  • Utilizes appropriate judgment when assigning priorities to deliveries and job tasks
  • Processes direct issues and verifies availability prior to issuing supplies; Reports inventory discrepancies
  • Processes the return of goods and outgoing freight according to established procedure
  • Maintains code cart fleet; delivers replacement code carts to units as needed
  • Monitors, stocks, and transports supplies and/or equipment to any inventory areas requested
  • Maintains inventory on PAR locations by organizing, counting, scanning, replenishing, and delivering supplies.
  • Rotates stock by placing the first expiring items to the front and the newer items to the back
  • Works with appropriate parties to ensure optimum inventory levels
  • Keeps PAR areas and bins clean and organized
  • Checks for and removes outdated items
  • Removes overstock and returns to Central for credit
  • Monitors supply usage and reports the need for PAR level adjustments
  • Follows procedures for distribution of supplies; uses correct units of measure and accurately records quantities issued and returned
